Description Please note that I don't hate all pop-punk, in this piece I try to portray how punk is becoming less like punk as the years go on, and my hope that punk will one day get restored to it's traditional ideologies.

I like the idea of political apathy. Makes you feel calm and more happy and away from the mosh pit of political issues and arguments. You see guys, the best thing to do is don't try too hard.

Although you may assume that the pop punk genre consists of bands that are bigger, like Blink 182 and Green Day, I suggest you look into it a bit more. If you'd listen to new bands in the genre like The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Four Year Strong, Polar Bear Club, Handguns, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, and so on, I think you might change your mind. As much as I love the traditional meaning of punk and the lifestyle and bands of it, pop punk today is not what you think it is. Just because a punk band is melodic doesn't mean it doesn't stand for the same thing: If you'd listen to the lyrics in the songs, they stand for the same thing, and are just as angry, sad and emotionally charged as the original punk. In fact, pop punk songs understood me when no one else could, and made me feel like I had a place to belong to. So please, give some of the new bands a chance. Being stuck in the 70's and 80's punk music and not accepting new things is definitely NOT punk. Just something to think about.

Though I do enjoy me some Dead Milkmen, I can't say I don't agree.

Well, personally I see pop punk as an opening to "real" punk rock. I, for example, do enjoy bands like Green Day and Blink-182, and some other poppunk bands BUT I prefer the classic punk of the late 70's/early 80's like Ramones, Sex Pistols, Ebba GrΓΆn, Asta Kask, Dead Kennedys, Operation Ivy (I know, there late 80's but they're still awesome) and my favorite: The Clash (although I do enjoy more "modern" punk like Anti-Flag, Floggin Molly and Leftover Crack).

The thing is, I like almost every kind of punkrock (except for Nazi-punks, they can f**k off!), and if someone listens to Green Day or Blink today, let them be. After a while they might listen to Bad Religion and Ramones and then the entire world of great punkbands are open to them.

But yeah, I agree that it's sad with multi-million dollar corporations who only cares about dollars and cents and who "think it's funny, turning rebellion into money."

I'd love to stick a bunch of Pop Punkers in a room with John Lydon. I'm sure he'd make them cry.

like this. alot. pop punk is just made so that 'normal, commercial' people can feel tough and rebellious.eugh.
But luckily the punk rock ideals still exist in some people!
Brilliant

the ideas that establish punk are the qualities that truly determined people have. I agree that punk is not the movement that it used to be. We just need to be reminded of it, and I think this does it perfectly well.
