Description
One of my favorite fairytales growing up was that of the town musicians of Bremen.
I’ts quite niche and not so well known as eg. Red Riding Hood, however I find it a lovely Grimm fairytale that deserves more attention.

For those who don’t know the story:
It’s a very cute and short story about four unwanted farm animals (a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster) teaming up together to start a band. They are on their way to Bremen, a city where they hope to find fame and fortune after being abandoned by their owners for being too old and weak to work at their farms. One night they stumble across cozy cabin occupied by a group of bandits with plenty of food and a warm fireplace. Peeking though the window the animals decide to jump on each others back and sing their most beautiful song. The bandits jump up in fear, for they believe they are being haunted by a terrible ghost, and run out of the cabin leaving a buffet of delicious food behind. The animals walk in, make themselves at home, and settle in for the night. The next evening one of the robbers returns to investigate what happened. Before he can light a candle he is scratched on his face by a witches long fingernails (the cat) stabbed by a dwarf (bitten by the dog) and hit by a club by a black monster (kicked by the donkey), and worst of all; a judge calling out from the rooftop (the roosters screams). In fear and aches of the monsters he runs back to his friends, never to return again. The animals quite like their new home and decide perhaps they don’t need the fame of Bremen to be satisfied, after all they have each other. And so they decided to spend the rest of their lives in the cabin, living happily ever after.
