Description Sword of Ecthelion, Gatekeepers hidden city of Gondolin. He was killed during the storming of Gondolin in a fight with the Balrog. This is the only sword with a curved blade belonging to the High Elves Noldor.

The inscription on the blade, in Sindarin - is the battle cry of the Edain (people who fighting on the side of the Elves) and roughly translated means "Shine the Light! Run Night!" And I added another phrase: "Revenge is coming."
Just want to say that Tolkien did not say whether there are any sword of Ecthilion inscription, this is my fantasy ...

Absolutely beautiful model. I am wondering how you achieved the fine details? Are the leaves/swirls modeled in or displacement map?

Maybe, I can't recall details right now because I had read the Book several years ago.

Addendum: I can't help but think this piece would've been better with 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 edges as opposed to 2.  Also, this would make a great ceremonial sword for - something

HorheSoloma In reply to kimberly80 [2015-01-20 18:44:42 +0000 UTC]

kimberly80 In reply to HorheSoloma [2015-01-20 19:44:22 +0000 UTC]

Very cool and wonderful work.  Just FYI though, at least according to the Tolkien movie 'verse, Orcrist is Ecthelion's sword.

HorheSoloma In reply to JillDragon [2014-06-27 19:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
To be precise, the film - it's not Tolkien's version, this version of Peter Jackson  Tolkien did not specify who owned the sword Orcrist, he spoke only about his legendary...

JillDragon In reply to HorheSoloma [2014-06-29 04:47:25 +0000 UTC]

True, but if you look at the weapons the various lords of Gondolin are described as wielding and the circumstances of their deaths/fates, by process of elimination I still think it's most likely that Ecthelion is Orcrist's owner.

But whatever, like so many things Tolkien wrote it's also totally open to interpretation - and it doesn't change the fact that this sword is wonderful craftsmanship.

Anything can happen. We can only guess. Unfortunately, Mr. Tolkien died without finishing his story about Middle-earth.
