DONE. Been working on this since last Tuesday for a Superhero challenge. So this is Black Emerald! (It's a dumb name but just go with it...) I figured she needed a back story, and after staring at her for so long there wasn't anything else running through my head, so here goes nothing.

She's an alien. (Original I know.) Her planet was overrun by some evil dudes and although she was able to escape the wrath of other evil alien peeps, the rest of her kind is trapped. They are made slaves and are currently mining up the planet's primary resource of Emeralds for the evil dudes. While escaping the planet she ended up going through some strange energy field in space (cough cough Fantastic four cough). Everyone on her planet can sense where an emerald is under the ground already, but now she has the capability to create emerald things from thin air. After crash landing on Earth finding no way to get home with the planet's limited materials, she figures she might as well make the most of her stay and fight crime? Cause that's a thing that aliens do? So yesh. Black Emerald.
