Description I don't get why guys are so afraid of dancing! :C

I dance everywhere! In my room, in the shower, in my head during class.

I am not a guy but I would prefer the sushi night... first because I like japanese food, and second because I am sooo clumsy dancing that it actually looks stupid

From my personal experience, I'd say... There are 3 types of dancing-fear that guys have.
1: Looking dumb while dancing, a fear mostly found among boys with low self-confidence
2: Afraid of dancing in general because it's "Gay". Best not to date this sort of fellow.
3: Afraid of dancing because they don't know how to dance xD

We're afraid of dancing because we don't want the girl we like to realize what doofuses we are. (I don't get it either. I love to slow dance, but hate it at the same time.)

Let us define "afraid".

Whatever is said on the topic, dancing is a spectacle. Force someone untrained to make a spectacle of themselves, and prepare for embarrassment and anger, and potential resentment. We -generally- don't like to get things wrong, especially in front of others, and so accordingly minimize the chances of it happening. Ergo, no dancing.

The reason why, is probably because it is a formless expression of feelings pushed into a slew of incoherent movement. I am not bitter about dancing, I like dancing, foxtrot, tango, salsa, whatever.
It is simply that there isn't any social protocol that defines what supposed modern "dancing" is supposed to be, and that freaks the hell out of a lot (possibly most) happily conventional guys. Sure we are happy being silly, alone with our partners and friends, but put it in a public place and all that intimate safety is removed.

I don't have a problem with dancing.
...Assuming people stop bitching at me because I SUCK AT DANCING if it's not foxtrot or tango. Seriously.

Nobody have ever asked me for a dance so I don't know how I would react. I like dancing though, I'm okay at it.

Not every guy is shameless and/or confident enough to actually dance. I for one like my dancing, especially my shamelessly seductive ones (and by that I mean my gyroscopic hips).

I dunno. I can't dance, but I still do it xD It's fun and freeing. But Then I have to go stand in a corner watching people dance if I wanna talk to any of my guy friends.

Some guys want to look good 100% of the their time. Dancing usually makes us look stupid.

#1 because we don't look nearly as good
#2 Don't jump on your bed with young lady!
#3 first impression "sexy imagery" second impression "you do realize you can hurt yourself that way, don't you?"
#4 you should be paying attention

Probably because we'd feel judged if we do something wrong or dance silly.

AxletheBeast In reply to hPolawBear [2014-03-07 23:39:18 +0000 UTC]

These are generalizations so of course I realize they don't apply to everyone, but from what I've observed, generally guys are expected to maintain a more cool or serious appearance, so dancing silly is kinda off the table if you care about those expectations. Also I'm pretty sure a lot of guys don't actually learn how to dance well, so dancing silly is their ONLY option.

I'd be nervous going to a dance simply because I don't know how to dance. I can (and have in the past) improvised, but my improvised dances are always silly and I'm not sure that's something I'd want to bust out in a public venue. But on YouTube? SURE! xP
