Not completely accurate depiction of the dress reconstructed for Menimane, the woman on the grave stone for Blussus and Menimane, 1st century AD, from Mogontiacum/Mainz.Famous today for her fashion sense...or for giving archaeologists an idea of native dress in the Roman Rhine provinces.
She has some rattish little lap dog on the grave stone...I just drew a bit of a mini version of my own doggie for it

Is that Mainz near Frankfurt? I didn't realise there was any roman history there when I went a few weeks ago for the afternoon. I suppose I didn't look deep enough

Yes it is. Mogontiacum/Mainz was a roman military base and became the capital of the Roman province Germania superior, but I don't think a lot can be seen in the city today.

Menimane is stunning; the colors, shading, folds, details of the trim and jewelry, everything! The lil puppy is cute too hehe

Thank you! It's mostly a big combination of shading, smudging, shading again, putting patterns on top, fiddling with layer blending modes, shading again
