At my job it is very difficult to prevent conflicts due to the kind of environment we work at. When you are asked about the way in which conflicts are handled in an organization the first thing that may come to your mind is an office where employees have a manager or supervisor as a mediator or arbitrator to solve conflicts.

However, the kind of job I have is far from being in an office with determined rules and/or conduct guidelines. I don't mean that there are no rules in my organization, but since mine and my team's job is to give maintenance to the hydraulic parts of several aircrafts we do not have a strictly designed path to follow. We do have a supervisor telling us everything we are to do. He, for example, might say that we have to repair an aircraft that experienced some troubles when at flight, but the way in which the problem is solved or the path we may take in order to solve it is determined by the team members. Therefore different ideas and points of view are sure to be expected.

The interactionist view is practiced here because our manager believes that by discussing the different paths than can be taken or by arguing about how to fix a malfunction, we may finally get to the best solution. A little conflict can keep us aware of the different ways there are to get the job done and it also motivates us to excel among the other team members and try to find the most innovative and efficient solution. Don't get me wrong. He is not the kind of person that would tolerate any kind of fight, but he doesn't care how we do it (as long as we don't kill each other), he just wants everything to be done on time and in the best way possible.
