As I am writing this it is 12:05 on the east coast. I haven't posted much in the past few months, but let me change all of that starting with my first piece of 2005.

I spent the better part of the past week working on this as my many weeks of apathy had left me a bit impotent with Photoshop. I have to admit, though, that most of the time I spent on this was merely thinking of what I should do next. I wanted to convey a parallel betwen an earthly and celestial body (which also led me to choose the name that I did), and I toyed with the idea many times until I came up with the final iteration you see.

I used an old terragen render and did the best I could to spice it up, given my poor skills in 3D renders. Next I added a few planets to the sky, making sure to preserve a sense of perspective by sharpening the textures of the planets that are closer and obscuring the ones farther away. I painted some clouds near the sky level to add to the perspective, as well as dark nebulae to signify the transition between land and space.

For those who know me and my tendencies, you would have probably noticed that this is the longest description I have ever written for a piece of art. Just a little change of pace to ring in the new year, but don't be surprised if they become more random and ambiguous later in the year.
