Description

The Xuandi Dian(玄帝殿, palace of Xuanwu) in the Nanyan Gong(南岩宫, palace on the south cliff) temple of Mount Wudang. "Xuanwu(玄武)" is a mythical beast guarding the north in Chinese mythology, but why did Mount Wudang in southern China become the altar of Xuanwu? In fact, the earliest Mount Wudang is located in northern China, which is now known as the "Ancient Mount Wudang(古武当山)". During the Southern Song dynasty, northern China was occupied by the Manchus, so the Han people moved the altar of Xuanwu to the present Mount Wudang, where it remains today.
