"The recent development of a viable method to turn base metals into gold did not only fail to make it´s discoverers rich, but managed to permanently ruin the gold standard and force an entire generation of promising young alchemists into unemployment. Often incapable of finding any other work due to their peculiar and limited qualifications, many of these unlucky fellows ended up joining bands of mercenaries, wich promised to offer them an alternative application of their skills. As it turns out, the ability to change a heavily armored opponent´s entire equipment into worthless lumps of gold can be a devastating advantage in battle..."
