I love Jet as a Latina as well, but there just aren't enough badass, yet sexy heroines in geek culture! Marvel ain't gonna make 'em, DC ain't gonna make 'em, and it's rare that they're featured in video games as main characters or anything. And you'll be hard pressed to find many black heroine characters, original or established, in the galleries of the great artists here on DA that aren't fan art pics Storm and MAYBE Elena from the Street Fighter series...which both of them are whitewashed to hell, LITERALLY with white hair and blue eyes!!!
It would just be nice to see more diversity when it comes to the sexy babe art here on DA.

I agree, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it would be better to just make a new character to fit the mold (or bring one back from the past) than it would be to change Jet. I'm not super popular but the few people who know about Jet know her as she is and I'm not sure I want to be 'that guy' who remakes a character to fit a certain narrative.
I'm on the fence.

True...you make a good point. I think that's the trap that I've fallen into is retconning my characters only to muck things up badly and disenfranchising some of the very few fans/watchers that I have in the process. It probably would be better to create an all new character at this point...but would you make her nearly identical to Jet, or just make a new standalone character that has nothing to do with Jet and hope that she "catches on" like Jet did?

Whatever I do, it has to be natural. I don't even know if I have storytelling in me anymore... I can't say right now but I do believe simply making "the black Jet Dancer" isn't the right way to go.
I should simply start with the idea of making a unique and interesting black female lead, like I did with Nia Black so long ago, and go from there.

You inspire me many ways. One, I don't draw enough Black women, and two, I just don't draw enough! Any of these I do will be in tradition of, so people can enjoy more! Thanks for the hair compliment. I did want it to be interesting.
