Description

Core Theme

Two Skilled Swordmasters trying to live up to their father's legacy as protectors with a past filled with sins and failures that constantly haunts them, facing someone from their pasts constantly and hiding their true natures

Core Theme Explained

Both are skilled and fearless swordsmen/weapon master's of legendary blades who originate from a family that are quite well known thanks to their fathers (Uther being the King of Britain and Sparda being the most fierce demon of all and protector of the Human World) with both having to live up to their father's legacies (albeit somewhat reluctantly) as a King and Demon Hunter to protect others and their pasts would always come back to face them constantly, forcing them to hide their true Identities yet they add to their list of failures but also motivating them.

Story Connections

-- Both at a young age were trained as fighters by their mentors(Sparda and Merlin/Ector) but at the same time had rough childhoods and losing their fathers and would be taken in by someone else (Dante ultimately losing his father and mother and "supposedly" his brother while Artoria was born into chaos, can't have shit in Britain.) Eventually having to take the mantle of their fathers and protecting those they hold dear.

-- Both of them have a sibling who are dressed in blue and have white hair(Morgan Le Fay and Vergil) cold, rutheless and selfish in nature these siblings oppose the other(Morgan tries to take Sabers place as king and Vergil and Dante would often fight each other). But they still hold some form of respect to the other, said siblings have a personality split(Urizen and V for Vergil and Vivian for Morgan), with both siblings having a unique blade with special properties(Yamato can cut through almost anything and The Penetrating Blade Of Gold can remove your soul from your body) and have a kid which they don't seem to care much about (Mordred and Nero)

-- Both would also be accompanied by a wise yet also smart ass old person for most of their lives (Merlin for Artoria and Neil Goldstein/Morrison for Dante)

-- Both have their original swords destroyed at one point in a fight (Caliburn and Rebellion) but later repaired it/receive a new, much more magical one (Excalibur and Devil Sword Dante)

-- They both would also eventually suffer "defeat" to a young new protagonist related to their past, and would somewhat help these new protagonists (Nero being Dante's Nephew and Shirou being the son of Artoria's former master)

-- Both would meet someone very closely related to their past (Vergil and Lancelot) that turned into a mindless monster (Nelo Angelo and Berserker) and would face them in battle, eventually defeating them and killing them reluctantly, not knowing who they really were until their true Identities were revealed.

-- Both would also be fatally wounded in a duel against a family member (Vergil again and Mordred) but this fatal injury would soon help them gain something new out of desperation (Artoria's transformation into a Servant so that she could seek the Holy Grail and Dante awakening his Devil Trigger)

-- For the longest time, both would be at odds with an evil member of their family (Vergil and Vortigen) and would come out on top

-- Both of them took up diffrent names in the series to hide their Identities in their somewhat first canonical appearance (Elise Watson and Anthony Tony Redgrave respectively)

-- Both would constantly have their past catch up to them and face them constantly whether it be mentally or physically, it always seems to find them.

Personality Connections

-- One of their greatest struggles involved their Identities and their nature as a Demon/Servant, hate being treated in a contrast that Dante wants to be treated as a human while Artoria wants to be treated as a servant and would keep the notion that they are something else, rejecting their true selves but would soon grow out of this thanks to the help of a young teenager (Lady and Shirou)

-- Both would also be motivated because of their failures and losses that would constantly haunt them for their failure to protect or save the ones they cared for (Artoria's failure to protect Camelot making it her drive and motivation to win the Holy Grail War and Dante's failure to protect many loved ones making it his drive to protect others as a Demon Hunter)

-- Both of them are somewhat semi-human, Dante of course being half demon thanks to Sparda while Artoria through magic bullshit carries elements of a dragon.

-- Both would have a strong sense of justice and prefers to fight fair even if it puts them at a disadvantage.

-- They Both like food to an absurd degree that's its become a somewhat prominent character trait of theirs, being foodaholics (Dante with pizza, sundaes and classic alcohol and Artoria is... Anything really.)

Extra Connections

-- Both would appear much younger than they actually are due to something inside both of them (Avalon stopping Artoria from aging and Dante's Half-Devil Gene's slowing down his aging)

-- Both would also wield widely iconic blades to their setting (Rebellion/Devil Sword Dante and Excalibur) which they can wreath in energy to enhance attacks or summon a big fuck off Blast (Excalibur and Drive). Both would also know basically any form of combat with their weapon imaginable (Dante's unparalleled skill and quick learning with his Devil Arms to know how to use them at their fullest and the Saber Class inheritely knowing how to use every weapon)

-- Both originated from a video game but gets many adaptions in form of books and animation, both ironically appeared in several crossovers including famous ones like Marvel vs Capcom and technically Dante vs Bayonetta for Dante and Shadowverse, countless collaborations and comedy gold and meme worthy Carnival Phantasm. Both would also appear in another crossover fighting game like the aforementioned Marvel vs Capcom for Dante and Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

-- Both would also be named after an old famous European legend (Dante Aligheri and King Arthur)

-- Both would also have art together for a small connection , with additional art of their series crossovering together
