Summoned by: Humans. His skills in swordsmanship, his powers over sound, and his freaking huge bird intrigued Lucien-- that's my guess.

Background Story
Kalo was born and raised in a small village hanging off the fringes of a forest. When his parents first saw his eyes, they thought he must have been gifted. Eventually, as he grew, they figured out that he was blind. Their own child! Instantly all their dreams of him being an excellent hunter, swordsman, and carpenter like his father disappeared. Kalo’s mother still loved him, but in everything she did there was always an air of disappointment. What kind of future would he have? Kalo’s father lost interest in the kid and rarely did anything involving him. He never attempted to pass down any skills, as every father should feel obligated to do.

When Kalo was an infant, even if his eyes were open, no one changed into anything that they reminded him of. That’s because he didn’t know much about the world yet, so nothing really reminded him of anything until he grew. His ‘curse,’ they called it, first did it’s dirty work when his aunt visited one day. Her voice reminded him of the nasally ‘baa’ of the neighbor’s goats. She went to hug him, having seen her nephew for the first time. He looked up when he felt her arms around her and instantly she turned into a goat. Everyone was stunned. Kalo’s father hated him even more. It was even more ghastly when their neighbor took their aunt in to be one of his goats. Kalo’s mother told him to close his eyes, and he immediately did so because he never questioned her. She then took some super-sticky tree sap the village used and smeared it over his eyelids, so that they couldn’t open. Eventually the stuff rubbed off, but by that time, Kalo was used to it and could easily keep his eyes closed anyways.

Kalo grew up trying to find ways to compensate for his blindness. Other children in the village liked to constantly take advantage of it. They tended to ruffle him up every day, and would oftentimes come home with fresh bruises. There was one girl who would occasionally partake in the bullying, but eventually she took a liking to this blind kid. Even though he couldn’t see a damn thing, he always seemed to detect things that a blind person couldn’t—or shouldn’t be able to. She noticed that when Kalo seemed to get better and better at defending himself when the kids ganged up on him. One day she decided to help him out, and the two of them ended up scaring the bullies off. Kalo asked who she was, and she introduced herself as Rebecca. They became fast friends.

Since Kalo’s father wanted basically nothing to do with his burden of a son, Rebecca took the liberty of trying to teach him how to swordfight. Of course, they had some difficulty at first. But as time went on, Rebecca formulated strategies to help Kalo learn without cutting his limbs off in the process. When Kalo finally told her that he could hear much more than the average guy, it made her job easier in teaching him. Eventually he could basically kick ass and the bullying stopped. Rebecca also taught him other things that his father didn’t. His mother was ecstatic when she learned that her son could do some of these things that a blind man shouldn’t be able to.

As he and Rebecca grew to be teens, it grew less and less obvious that Kalo was blind. Rarely would anyone notice he even was unless the wind brushed his bangs from his face and they saw that his eyes were always closed. Rebecca realized she was beginning to like Kalo as more than just a friend. She didn’t hide it, either. She constantly asserted her attraction towards him, much to his annoyance. But at the same time, it became their little game. Rebecca had to compete, though, because another girl, Faine, had grown fond of him. Much to Rebecca’s annoyance, Kalo showed more relationship interest in the other girl.

He ended up courting the stupid Faine girl, who didn’t even know he was blind. Rebecca was still perfectly well Kalo’s best friend, but was still bitter towards the fact that he showed no special interest in HER. Kalo and Faine really did seem to love each other, though – until she finally figured out he was blind. Weren’t blind men supposed to be…able to do things right. They were disabled! Faine started to constantly berate him about doing things wrong. She took advantage of his blindness; and it led to rape. Several rapes. Their relationship grew bitter (and Rebecca savored every moment of it.) Kalo hated it, because one person he thought had accepted him for who he was, but now treated him terribly.

One evening, Kalo and Faine had a particularly fierce fight, because she was criticizing him for yet another thing he happened to be doing at the time. He got so mad, that he didn’t care what happened to her if he opened his eyes. In fact, he wanted to rip her to shreds. Kalo was just about ready to kill her, in all seriousness. Kalo wanted to draw his sword and slice her open; the situation they had amounted to was that bad. He blinked and then glared toward her voice in his anger. He immediately heard a gasp, and the weirdest sound—the same exact sound he heard when he turned his aunt into a goat. Then there was a loud clatter of metal. Kalo stood there for a few moments, wondering what Faine had become. He slowly approached the spot he heard the clang originate from, holding his breath. He couldn’t hear her breathing or heart rate anymore, so she must have turned into…an object.

Kalo kneeled and reached down. His hand brushed across metal, and he hissed when he cut his finger open on a sharp edge. He examined the object with his hands more carefully and found that she was a sword! A blade that could neatly and terribly cut things into rags, like her voice. She had turned into what he was just about to kill her with. Kalo replaced his old sword with her, sarcastically naming it ‘My Sweet Faine.’ Even though she acted so bitter in the end, he still valued the relationship they had beforehand.

Soon everyone realized that Faine was missing, and yet Kalo had said nothing about her disappearing. Everyone immediately became suspicious of him, since he was the last person she was with. Another obvious reason was because the two had been bickering for the past week. The majority suspected him of murder, but they couldn’t charge him for anything because there was simply no evidence. She had just vanished off the face of the earth.

Rebecca pretty much knew what happened, as soon as she saw that Faine had disappeared and Kalo suddenly had a new fancy sword. Her thoughts were confirmed when he explained to her what happened that night. She was pleased Faine was a piece of metal now—she couldn’t treat Kalo like trash anymore.

And yet he STILL showed no love interest in Rebecca! That aggravated her, but she resumed her antics now that Faine was out of the picture. One day she showed up at his house, where Kalo was kicking back and enjoying the sun’s warmth. “Kalo!” She called, knowing he could hear her coming but identifying herself so that he didn’t have to ask.
The boy sat up, pulling his hands from behind his head and resting them on his knees. “Hey Rebecca,” He called back, smiling a bit.

She kneeled in front of him, looking over his face. “Kalo, can I ask you something?” She asked expectantly. He nodded, letting her continue. But she wasn’t really hear to ask anything. Rebecca sprang forward and tackled him to the ground, trying to kiss him. To his own horror, Kalo’s eyes opened in surprise. Rebecca gasped—they were the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. The whites of his eyes weren’t actually white—they were a light green. And his irises weren’t your average emerald. They were a bright, lucid green. She only got to see those eyes for a fraction of a moment, though. The next second Kalo shut them tightly again, already knowing what he had just done. Rebecca fell back and was transformed into a harpy eagle.

She had to learn all the basics of flight and other harpy eagle-ish things as if she were a newborn chick. Kalo immediately explained to the rest of the village what happened. They didn’t exactly forgive him, since Rebecca was now a huge freaking bird, but they didn’t completely cut him off either. People passing through the village tended to refer to him as ‘the charming falconer man over there.’

Kalo had always been a little detached from the rest of society because of his blindness and his strange ‘curse.’ People saw him as almost intimidating, naturally feeling strange around him, simply because of those factors.

Personality.
Kalo-
He is not a very happy camper. Kalo used to be a much more mellow and defensive person. But, that was before he met Faine. After what she did to him, and he realized how stupid he was, it twisted him. From the time she'd become a sword, Kalo had become a much darker and more irritable person. Rarely is there a genuine smile on his face. He hates himself for falling for her tricks, and it often leaks out into everything he says and does.

Kalo does not treat women differently just because of their gender. If they deserve to be hit, he’ll hit them. If they end up battling each other, he won’t hold back. If you provoke him, that's it. He is provoked. There is no chivalry here.

Kalo can get quite smug during battle, especially when his opponent realizes he is blind and can still fight. The smugness is only an attempt to boost his confidence, really, because there are constantly doubts in his mind about being able to do as much things as a man with sight could do.

If you manage to get him even more pissed than he is at standard, then you best be warned. Kalo is ruthless and bloodthirsty if given the right reasons. Or, sometimes, minor ones. A draw back on his part is that if he isn’t calmed down soon enough, he’ll end up with a heart attack from his condition…

Rebecca- Rebecca isn’t afraid to confront people. She’s fiery and energetic. She likes to throw remarks at people, and isn’t afraid to play dirty. Rebecca loves violence and will pounce on any opportunity for rough play, unless it would be entirely stupid according to the situation. (This is a major difference between her and Kalo. If it's stupid, she won't do it. Kalo, however, can be more irrational about these things.)

Although she’s gritty and rough around the edges, Rebecca is undyingly loyal toward Kalo. She will do anything for him, despite the offensive crap she may fling at him at any time.

When Rebecca is angry, you can guarantee it’s a worse angry than if she was on her period as a human. I’m entirely serious. Don’t make a freaking huge bird mad. Freaking huge birds have freaking huge talons. Got that? Good. You can’t really say she’s ever sad—her sadness seems to just be another form of her anger. That’s what it quickly turns into, anyway.

She’s kind of bipolar, you could say. Either high on taunts or pissed.

Anything Else?
Oftentimes to relax, Kalo will kick back in the grass and doze in the sun's warmth. Sometimes to annoy him, Rebecca will sit on his stomach. He's used to that anyway.

The man can't hold his alcohol, period. It doesn't take much to get him drunk. At all.

One thing Rebecca taught him was how to play the flute. Give him one and he'll show you instant gratitude. It's one of his venting methods, so it's greatly appreciated.

The 'low whistling' mentioned above, describing the sound makes when Kalo slices My Sweet Faine through the air, is the faint plea of the girl inside the sword to be turned back into a human. Kalo highly suspects this, as does Rebecca, but they sure aren't going to tell any body else that.

Kalo won't just go willy-nilly TURN YOU INTO OBJECTS on people. He hates the things his eyes do and keeps them shut tight at all times. Only things that could reach the piss-offery height of the Faine incident would make him open them.

He also has a falconing glove; same color as his boots. I forgot to draw it on his ref, sorry. XD But it's just simplistic; nothing too special about it. Just a leather glove.

I saw an OCT (original character tournament) hosted by ~Ganondorfthethird , called Oberon's Garden, and it immediately captured my interest! I decided to recycle Kalo and Rebecca for it, because this is a great opportunity for character developement. And I've always wanted to develope them a little more. :'D
