I personally think it developed over time, probably starting when he learned that Mufasa was going to be king instead of him. I figured it could be around this age too. And of course with Simba being born that pushed him WAY over the edge xD

Yes! I definitely agree. It would have been so interesting to have seen there backstory, it's too bad they never made a movie, book or anything about it.
