I was messing around in a gemsona generator, looking to get some ideas, (the resulting picture can be viewed here: sta.sh/0ysxu8cwidm and I came up with a quartet that are loosely based off the hannah-barbara model; in the spirit of scooby-doo or Jabberjaw, they travel around the multiverse, getting involved in fun adventures, solving mysteries, and often battlign villains. Think a combination of rockstar concerts and superheroines.

This is Volcanic Obsidian, the unofficial leader and Big Mom of the group. She and the other two gems in her group were made by Autobot scientists attempted to figure otu a way for Gems to reproduce without losing their Gem or devouring vast amounts of resources and living things; while unsuccessful, it did produce sevearl gems, including our principle trio. But as a consequence, they are highly unusual mutants. Volcanic Obsidian in particular has Quartz-like proportions, and is alarmingly huge for any non-fusion Gem, standing over thirteen feet tall.

She is a very melancholy person; gloomy, a little tactiturn, and finding it difficult to connect words together at a pace comparable to others, she is usually downcast and even depressed. She finds it hard to muster energy much of the time, and usually speaks in short, weary phrases. On ocassion, she can get genuinely enthusisatic or passionate when something inspires her; she speaks more rapidly in this state, genuinely warming up as her body transforms, literally igniting and transforming into a liquid, lava-like substance! (This does not burn anyone, unless she wishes to.) She finds it exhausting to maintain this level of emotional intensity.

A very motherly person; she is sweet and caring, in her own way, and finds many lovers across the stars, though her heart chiefly belongs to the quartet she has formed with two dear Gem friends, Emerald and Spherite, and a small alien protege/sidekick they have taken on.

The white spots and patterns on her body are intended to be fracture points, similar to real life obsidian that has been broken. In her case, it may be a manifestation of her Gem's composition.

Her hair is a sort of lava-like substance that reflects her state of mind; when entirely gloomy or downcst, it hardens into a variety of lumps and spheres, identical to igneous stone. As she musters enthusiasm, it bursts into lava, expanding into a much larger and poofier hair shape. There is always at least some lava-hair active, unless she is completely dormant or in a very negative state of mind.
