Hey remember Karl from a couple of submissions ago? Well, I've made him a king now. Or rather, he deluded himself he is the rightful ruler of Polsterreich (spoiler: he isn't but no one dares to tell that to his face, just look at his glare).

The burst of inspiration for this character design started when a friend suggested I should make this antagonist go full medieval larp to visualise his corruption by power. I was about to draw some elaborate medieval style crown but then this Roman wreath came up in references instead. Turns out this was a perfect decision as people apparently love the mish mash of 19th century/medieval and ancient Roman aesthetics. I almost made Karl too aesthetic to be disliked as a villain.

And yes, that's my second 'lazy' backgroundless character render, another one I'm very proud of. I especially like how I'm able to convey his personality through his stance and expression. My new year's resolution was to have my art to convey as much emotional information as possible and I think I managed to work it out?
