Kratos walked the desolate, untrodden Earth, grief weighing heavy on his heart. His body ached from the battle within him, making him physically spent, tendering the muscles and sensitive skin. The young stallion seemed to spend most of his time alone, lately. The company of others didn't comfort him the way they had in his younger days, though the silence was unsettling to him even still. Something--and he didn't know what it was--kept the dun horse's heart in shackles. For the first time in his short life, he felt truly alone. Whether he had reason to or not didn't ever seem to matter, against all the efforts the colt had tried to convince himself otherwise. It was something he couldn't shake; the crushing, debilitating agony of abandonment.
He hung his head and let out a heavy sigh, enabling soft tendrils of forelock to brush his eyes, tickle his nose. In such times, all he could ever seem to do was doubt or wonder about existence in life; what did it all mean? Was there a purpose somewhere, buried underneath the rubble of the world's greatest unanswered questions? He didn't know, and it angered him to the core.

Kratos halted next to a gnarled tree, the seemingly only living thing in the short, wild grasses. He lifted his head and gazed toward the skies. A flush of cold air chilled him to the bone, billowing through his mane and tail, but he didn't feel it. The sky had ensnared his entire being, he realized, as he allowed himself to be enveloped in its beauty. Craning his head, he gazed intently at the clouds as they drifted, and the faint sparkle of stars in the distance. Retreating birds filled his vision briefly, then disappeared into the violet waves. Finally feeling at ease, he breathed in deeply, then expelled tendrils of steaming breath to mingle with the chilled air. With it, his aches subsided, but the heaviness in his heart remained.

Wherever he did belong, Kratos resolved to find it. It wasn't here, on this Earth. It wasn't alone. There was someone. He had someone to love him. This was a piece of Kratos that he never actually had. He has never been whole. And so began his long journey. His journey home.

Hooookay. This drawing was actually meant for a speed/mini contest that =Metterschlingel is hosting here: www.deviantart.com/journal/Spe… where you had to draw the sky and a character. But. It turned into a much longer, much needed healing thing. I've been really depressed lately, and just overall fed-up with everything, and this may have broken through some artblock, and dug up some old wounds for me.
Of course, I decided to draw my boy Kratos for this, I just love him, and I hope to use him in dire art spasms like this was.

I'm really grateful for the contest, and that I decided to do it. This doesn't heal me, but it does clear the air. I may go back and add to this later, but who knows. As of right now, I feel absolutely miserable and sick to my stomach. I'm sure I'll get over it, but bed time for me, I think.

Anyway, sorry for all the depressing shit, and I hope you enjoy! Also, I have no idea how much veratis points this is worth
