I think in FMA they called their mother Kaza (sp?) (as opposed to okaasan, which is also correct). Not too sure why though. I'm not multi-linguist. I love the picture.

No, it SOUNDS like Kaza, but they actually say kaa-san (they sometimes say okaa-san, but you can barely hear the 'o' part). Okaa-san is a little more formal than just kaa-san. -san is the prefix or whatever you call it (equivalent to our mr. or ms. etc)
