Description I was going for this paint scheme, >> [link] << and I STILL don't think I have the right blue. It's between the two that I used. I have a few more details that I want to clean up, but it's maybe 95% done?

Hey man. Where did u get the graphic for the little screen? I'm doing a Maliwan Vigelon right now and can't find anything even close to printable.

I know this is old, but someone has just made a high quality image of this if you still need it:

Regardless, then colors match pretty well.

Very Nice.

Is this a nerf gun? I really like the look of the gun and I would like to do a paint scheme of my own, but I can't find 1 online anywhere.

Also the blue on the pic kinda looks like a slate blue, or a steel blue, but I like the color you chose for the gun better.

Thanks! They don't make the "right" color in a rattle can. I've checked every color made by Krylon, Rustoleum, Dupli-color, and Plastikote. That's why I went wit a Rustoleum Lagoon Blue and a Krylon Oxford Blue. The in-game color is halfway between the two, it' s not 100% blue, there's a hint of green in it.

Looks like a Green drop's paint scheme. I think a Blue or Purple's scheme would be hard to pull off with the hexagon pattern.

Yep, it's a green. Check the rerence pic in the link.

I really like this!! Reminds me of weapons from District 9.

Yeah somebody else mentioned that too. I think it's the orange and white combo that does it.

I actually said to my buddy that I thought the new Maliwans looked District 9 inspired when the game first came out, so its not just your firefly version

Great job. Really clean and true to the original concept. Love it.

You make it look easy, my friend.

Hypercats In reply to KingMakerCustoms [2012-12-07 01:58:29 +0000 UTC]

I'll let you in on the secret! I had to remask and repaint the lines MULTIPLE times, I started with a white basecoat and then applied the colors. Sometimes, the orange would overspray and go where it wasn't supposed to, sometimes the blue would bleed under the masking tape... So I had to remask and recoat with the white until I got clean straight lines. I'm very lucky that Krylon and Rustoleum dry as fast as they do, I can do 3-4 light coats in 30 minutes. Which is the other thing that I've learned about rattle cans: MULTIPLE LIGHT COATS. 8 light coats will cover better than 2 heavy ones. I RARELY get fisheyes or orange peel these days because I put the paint on as light as possible, multiple times. I used to try to get full coverage in one or two coats, and would get all kind of problems with putting it on too heavy.

Looking forward to your livestream tonight, if I remember to be around in an hour. I have sanding and painting in the shop to do still tonight.

I said LOOK easy, didn't I? I remember that nightmare with my District 9 gun and that didn't turn out nearly as clean. Hard work pays off!

Thanks, by the way. The stream should go okay, I think. I wouldn't bother but a good few dozen people asked in the last month so I figured, why not try it.

Hypercats In reply to KingMakerCustoms [2012-12-07 02:14:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, hopefully some people show up. I have a friend csandreas who has 8900 subscribers, 1.3 million views, and had about 25 people on his livestream last night. I tried tinychat once, and had my webcam on in the shop. I had a guy who was working on a Nite Finder join me and he had his webcam on and we swapped techniques. I loved that you could have like 8 people all working on projects and have like 8 webcam projects on the screen.

Mm, that's one reason I'm doing it. Seems like it's gonna be mostly other modders there, which doesn't shock me much. Girlygamer's gonna try to show, too, so that should be a treat.

Hypercats In reply to Uratz-Studios [2012-12-06 15:17:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I suppose you could turn a Nerf Firefly into something similar to District 9. I put a comparison shot of the original design in the description above.

Uratz-Studios In reply to Hypercats [2012-12-07 00:54:55 +0000 UTC]

Well anyway If I ever make some sort of sci-fi movie on a budget I'd have you make these guns. They wouldn't even need electronics other than some lights.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hypercats In reply to Uratz-Studios [2012-12-07 01:50:34 +0000 UTC]

That's cool, it's definitely possible. I don't want to think about what shipping would cost though. O.O You've got plenty of plastic guns over there, but some of the cheap, Chinese manufactured, no-name ones that I've bought were VERY low quality: Thin, breakable plastic, minimal wiring/soldering, random sound effects from a sound chip that was made for something else. I wouldn't be surprised if you had some lower quality copies from the original Nerf molds over there though. I know that there's some plastic toy guns that take the design of the Maverick and Nite Finder and switch it up just enough to not be direct copies.
