I press my face against my past
The iron bars built by my hands
A thud, a bang, an angered cry
Trapped in a cage above the skies
The walls close in, nowhere to hide
A stomp, a shudder, tears, and sobs
The freshened claw-marks on the floor
The rusting of the iron door
The dents left on the blackened bars
All of the struggles, nothing but scars
A desperate, frenzied last attempt
I jump and stomp with all my might

The metallic floor vibrates with my effort

The cage shakes loose from its perch

My mistakes, my fears, my dreams, my smiles, my tears
All fall with me
I hear the wind whisk by my ears

The rush of panic
The unknown
The future
The ground comes to meet me
A new beginning
