Description From Bikes, Blues and Barbeque 2014 Antique Bike Show

Blast from the past. I honestly didn't know Yamaha made bikes that far back.

Thanks. I am kind of wondering if its the beginning of a restoration project to keep, to sell or to be a museum piece.

The YA-1 is the first product of Yamaha's Motor division, and this was the first year it was made. Evidently, this 125cc bike did well in Japanese competition. Really interesting example!

SAE Japan also lists the YA-1 as one of their 240 landmarks of Japanese Automotive technology. It was evidently heavily influenced by the German DKW RT 125, with some improvements.

Thanks for sharing! The Wiki has a mint one on the page, interesting to see a US Survivor like this example.

I've become more interested in them over the years from seeing them at the Simeone Museum, Radnor Hunt, and the Glenn Curtis Museum. I do have several in my gallery.

I was also very curious about the Yamaha history, as I own two Yamaha instruments.
