In Greek mythology, Erebus /ˈɛrəbəs/, also Erebos (Ancient Greek: Ἔρεβος, "deep darkness, shadow"), was often conceived as a primordial deity, representing the personification of darkness.

I think he rather regurgitates the light. The satan, primal critic, freethinker and GIVER of light, opposing to god, who is the archetype of enslaving, brutal government.

well the intention here is that he devours the sun, and no reference to the bible is intended. the inspiration behind this and most of the ones with the sun and the moon from my gallery are related to love (to a certain degree).

Well Lucifer was called that way before the fall, after that he only became known as Satan - the opposer.
God in the Old Testament is a strict father figure dealing with disobedience by punishing people while in the Old Testament he's a kind father figure forgiving disobedient people. You can hamfist a government metaphor into it all, but he's referred to as "father" multiple times in the bible, so that comparison is much closer to what's intended IMO.
His appearance in the Old Testament is kind of standard for new religions that need to have give everyone a simple-to-understand, very good reason for why they should listen to that invisible guy in the clouds telling people to have a sense of discipline and not be dicks (among other things looked at more controversially today). New Testament is the result of a time of political oppression and economic struggle, resulting in God being reshaped as source of hope for everyone, even sinners, that you'd *want* to be guided by.
