How big is the Kurnugian Sea? I keep imagining it as being the size of Lake Michigan, but some part of me keeps saying that it's probably much bigger than that.

So when creating maps do you just draw these by hand digitally or by more traditional formats? Or is there like some sort of program you use? Sorry I know it's a really dumb question I'm just like super oblivious to all this stuff

I have the map of the whole planet on a 1,5mx70cm large cardboard, that's too large to scan it so I photographed it and painted over
it digitally.

Are you going to update your current Nea planetary map with a larger size and much more detail like this map?

P.S. I have noticed that there are many light pale spring green areas surrounding the sea and rivers, i would assume that they represent wetlands? and are you planning on making more close-up maps like this?

Hyrotrioskjan In reply to bradster4000 [2015-12-30 23:40:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if I will do the whole map

They are not really wetlands, the dark green stuff is more wetland-ish These spots are places with a bit more vegetation as usual, many cacti, some trees and a lot of bushes.

Ok, and I've noticed some differences from this map and the planetary map at the same location if you look closely enough, just being observant!

I know, this is in a way also a update, which is more closely to the original map which is too large to scan

Oh, ok thanks for letting me know.
P.S. i originally planned to make a bigger, updated, more color appropriate update of your planetary map earlier but i scrapped the idea for the sake of copyright laws.

Interesting. I bet most colony\city structures sattled in Nea's coasts

There are indeed many but far less than one would expect.

The biodiversity is still diverse; however how much small it can\could be

I thought there was a temperate forest on the eastern shore of the Kurnigian, like in the World map, no?

But like you said, it's still a rough sketch, so there are probably some things to be adressed.

That map is indeed pretty rough, the green strip you saw there is actually not very much, very little forest, but many bushes, cacti and some grasses.

Nice, I hope we get more info about all the names of the seas and mountains on Nea.
Those orange spots were alkaline lakes, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyrotrioskjan In reply to Dontknowwhattodraw94 [2015-12-30 23:34:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they are very salty lakes, full of red/orange bacteria and small crustaceans.

How do tectonics work on Nea? This looks like a subduction zone, but Nea lacks the water that allows Earth to have active plate tectonics.

EL-D0rito In reply to nickjohnmon1 [2016-01-03 04:29:55 +0000 UTC]

Are there still active volcanoes on Nea? If it was once a subduction zone, and if plate tectonics hasn't completely stopped, there would probably be volcanoes around somewhere.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyrotrioskjan In reply to EL-D0rito [2016-04-02 16:02:19 +0000 UTC]

Even with inactive plate tectonics volcanism is still possible, volcanoes can be found in the mountainous regions of the planet but sometimes single hot-spots can be found too
but compared to earth volcanism is a little less active, but thousands of volcanic remains show that this wasn't always the case.

It was once a subduction zone but after the oceans shrunk the plate tectonics mostly ceased.

I'm curious, what are the dark ornate spots supposed to represent? And is there anything alive in that itty bitty lake to the left of the sea?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyrotrioskjan In reply to SelenaRH [2015-12-30 23:30:44 +0000 UTC]

All these lakes are full of life

"what are the dark ornate spots supposed to represent?", I think you mean orange?
These are salt and natron lakes full of small red bacteria and crustaceans.

Wut. I typed ornate? Wut? So I did. I'm sorry, I do that sometimes. xD Yes, I did mean orange.

And that's cool! Any particularly strange looking crustaceans?

That's still a matter of work but most are microscopic, so not something obvious.
