Description
(Minor Spoilers Ahead in this moveset. Smash is no stranger to spoilers though, but still SPOILER WARNING)
**THE KNIGHT CHALLENGES SMASH BROS!!**
Name: The Knight
Universe: Hollow Knight
Entrance: The Knight teleports onto the stage using a dream gate and appears in a burst of essence. They then take out their sword in a challenge pose (just like when challenging certain bosses in HK) and gets ready to battle!
GHOST OF HALLOWNEST--------------------------
The Knight from Hollow Knight joins smash bros as a new fighter!! Knight utilizes an energy source known as “SOUL” for most of his specials and certain attacks. Above The Knight’s health bar are 6 SOUL charges that appear exactly like the ones from Hollow Knight. Different moves use SOUL in different ways. The way to recover SOUL is by taking DMG or by delivering attacks, meaning The Knight is a character who is deadly from a distance but needs to keep pressure on opponents to constantly refill their SOUL to keep up those attacks. All of The Knight’s specials are unique in that they have two phases depending on how charged up the SOUL charge is. SOUL is recovered gradually with every successful hit (about three hits fills one soul) and even more with a successful smash attack (a successful smash attack will fill an entire SOUL charge).
Specials------------------------------
B- Vengeful Spirit/Shade Soul- The Knight congers a spirit projectile and sends it flying forward to burn its opponents! The vengeful spirit will travel all the way across screen until it hits an opponent, surface, or goes off stage. The spirit is a powerful projectile, and will use up 1 SOUL per use. The vengeful spirit will disappear once it makes contact with an opponent or surface. If the Knight’s SOUL charge is full when used, the Knight will instead cast Shade Soul, a more powerful version of vengeful spirit. The shade soul is an entirely black void filled spirit that will not disappear after hitting an opponent or surface. It will instead continue to travel forward and dealing havoc until it exits the stage! The shade soul will take 2 SOUL charges after casting.
Side B- Mothwing Cloak/Shade Cloak- Using the mothwing cloak, the Knight dashes forward quickly in a similar style to Fox’s side special but without the startup lag. The mothwing cloak uses no SOUL to use and does not deal DMG, instead it acts as an extended dodge and allows the Knight to dodge attacks and zip by opponents to get behind them. The Mothwing Cloak does have a 2 second cooldown lag between uses. If the Knight has a full SOUL charge, they will instead use the shade cloak! Unlike in the game, in Smash the shade cloak will use 1 SOUL charge. With the shade cloak the side special has the same effect but it will instead deal stabbing DMG also as the Knight slices through the opponent and is engulfed in the darkness of void.
Up B- Crystal Heart- A chargeable recovery that does not use any SOUL, the Knight charges up as crystals form around it and shoots itself high into the air! While in the air only air will gather around the Knight, but when used on the ground crystals will form around the Knight to indicate how high the crystal heart will launch. The crystal heart has three heights depending on how long it is charged; the first is about as high as Bayonetta’s up special, the second is about as high as Pit’s up special, and the third being as high as Lucario’s full aura up special (but takes about 4-5 seconds to charge). The recovery deals DMG but will also put the Knight into a free fall state once the peak is reached and you can only travel upwards.
Down B- Focus/Desolate Dive/ Descending Dark- A unique special with three different abilities dependent on circumstances. First up; Focus. If down B is used on the ground, the Knight will begin to course with energy being drawn in all around itself. If the Knight can focus energy without taking any DMG for 3 seconds they use up 3 SOUL charge but they also recover 15% DMG after the focus special is finished! To use focus you need to have at least three SOUL charge, and taking any DMG or trying to dodge while trying to heal will immediately stop the special and drain 3 SOUL charge. So focus gives you great health back with the risk of even a 0.5% hit stopping the move in its tracks. If down B is used in the air the Knight will perform desolate dive! The Knight glows a white aura as they descend quickly downward with energy coursing around them. Once hitting the ground the dive creates a small shockwave that delivers a shockwave that spreads out and up. This attack can also spike opponents! The desolate dive is very strong with the drawback of using 2 SOUL charges and you cannot exit out of the attack once it begins until you either fall off stage or hit the ground. If the SOUL meter is full and the Knight is in the air, the Knight will perform descending dark! The descending dark engulfs the Knight in black void and deals more DMG, spikes opponents, and will bury opponents caught in the shockwave once it hits the ground, with the drawback of using 3 SOUL charges.
Final Smash- Dream No More- Quickly taking out the Dream Nail and lunges forward with high speed and deadly precision. If the Knight makes contact with any opponent(s) the camera zooms in as the captured opponent(s) are sent to a pitch black void where they float helpless in the air. The Knight lets out a screech as their helmet bursts in two and the Knight is overtaken by void energy! The Knight sprouts large void-like tendrils behind its back and begins an onslaught of slashing attacks with the tendrils of void energy. Similar to Bayonetta’s final smash, you can mash the attack button to deal more DMG and slashes to opponents. After a few moments of this attack the screen flashes white and everyone is transported back to the battlefield.
Standard Moves---------------------------------------------
A – The Knight slashes their nail blade horizontally once.
AAA – A 3 slash combo with the nail blade.
A Left/Right- A fast horizontal slash with the nail blade.
A Dash- Dash Slash- The Knight dashes forward a short distance while slashing horizontally.
A Up- The Knight takes aim and strikes overhead with the nail in an arc style.
A Down- The Knight crouches low to the ground and slashes horizontally at a low angle.
Smash Left/Right- Great Slash-
Smash Up- Howling Wraiths/Abyss Shriek- One of the strongest smash attacks in the game, but also requires SOUL to use. With howling wraiths, the Knight leaps slightly off the ground and releases a wave of SOUL energy above and around themselves in the form of howling souls. This attack uses 3 SOUL charges to use, but is massively powerful if it is pulled off and makes contact with opponents. If the SOUL charge is full the smash attack changes to Abyss Shriek, where the Knight releases the souls of shrieking vessels lost in the Abyss. This powerful attack takes 5 SOUL charges to use, but the pay off is massive DMG and knockback all around the Knight and, if an opponent is hit right above the Knight, it will deal an instant KO.
Smash Down- Cyclone Slash- The Knight winds their nail blade and releases a low to the ground spin attack.
Aerial Neutral- Thorns of Agony- The Knight extends their arms and legs outward as black-shadowy thorns release from all around the Knight.
Aerial Forward- The Knight slices the nail horizontally through the air.
Aerial Backward- The Knight turns around and slices the nail horizontally through the air.
Aerial Down- The Knight slices the nail in a downward arc. If this attack lands it will also bounce the Knight into the air like a pogo attack allowing for strategic combos.
Aerial Up- The Knight slices the nail in an upward arc.
SPECIAL ANIMATIONS--------------------------
Jumping- MONARCH WINGS - The Knight’s double jump works similar to Bayonetta’s , for their second jump they sprout a pair of wings made of ethereal matter known as the Monarch Wings to help them get a second boost into the air.
Swimming- ISMAR’S TEAR- While swimming, The Knight can be seen surrounded by a circular halo in the water known as Ismar’s Tear. It has no use in Smash other than aesthetic.
Wall Jumping- MANTIS CLAW- The Knight can cling to walls and will slide down them slowly after clinging to a wall. This uses the MANTIS CLAW from Hollow Knight.
Side Dodge- SHAPE OF UNN- The Knight momentarily transforms into their Shape of Unn form and rolls sideways before changing back.
Shield- BALDUR SHELL- The Knight will shield and the shield will take on the appearance of the Baldur Shell charm.
Taunt/Result Screen---------------------------------------------------
Taunt 1 (Up) – The Knight takes out a small map and reads it. Holding down this taunt will allow the layer to walk around at a slower pace with the map still out.
Taunt 2 (Side) – The Knight takes a triumphant stance and slashes their nail weapon in a challenge-like pose, as if to challenge his opponents.
Taunt 3 (Down) – The Knight looks at the ground for a moment, slightly confused, as a grub leaps up from the ground and cheers before tunneling back into the ground.
Defeat Pose- No clapping. Instead, the Knight’s shade is seen floating on the defeat screen starring ominously. An echo of The Knight’s defeat.
Victory Pose 1- The Knight floats in the air as particles of light from all around fly into the Knight. Reference to when the Knight gains a new power-up in Hollow Knight.
Victory Pose 2- A bench is seen onstage as the Knight sits on it and reads a map while kicking their legs slightly.
Victory Pose 3- The Knight slashes the air several times with their nail as Geo fall around the Knight victoriously.

Assist Trophy--------------------------------------
Hornet- The fearsome sibling of the Knight joins the fight as an assist trophy! Hornet is a very deadly, fast, and powerful assist trophy so her chances of appearing are significantly less. But if she does appear, you better hope she is on your side. Hornet will jump around the stage and attack in three patterns. The first, she will leap into the air and point her needle forward as she crashes down at a diagonal trajectory. Her second she will toss the needle forward a far distance as it is attached to thread and once at its peak distance she will retract it back to her to deal additional DMG. Her final attack she levitates in the air and shouts as she uses glowing light energy fueled thread and rapidly whips it around herself so fast it looks like she is in a sort of orb.
Zote the Mighty- The mighty grey prince himself, Zote the Mighty, appears in Smash Bros! He is an assist trophy, but he would tell you it was all by choice and that the Knight should be his echo fighter…in any case, Zote is a dud assist trophy because his nail blade is made of shellwood which cannot deal any DMG to opponents. Zote dashes back and forth across the battlefield swinging his blade “Life Ender” attempting to attack opponents. If he makes contact with an opponent it will make a “tink!” sound and deal no DMG, but Zote will pose mightily and laugh triumphantly! Surprisingly he is very resilient to attacks and it can take a good number of hits before you can KO him.
