I'll try to make Disney/Pixar characters in young and stylish concepts, some kind of "students", something like the new Pixar's Movie: Monster University.China's heroine now as a modern city girl. She is part of the dance team of the university, loves Jay Chou and Wang Lee Hom XD

It's my favorite version of modern Mulan. I love that you gave her floral pattern and relatively long hair! In my opinion people tend to exaggerate her tomboyishness. While she is definitely wouldn't wear lace underwear and five inch heels, I don't think she would enjoy military style or something like that that makes her look fierce. I can imagine her liking floral patterns. However, I imagine her prefering pastel colors( like white, pink, mint green, sky blue, lavender) and Β wearing longer T-shirts because they match her soft-spoken and modest personality better but in general your idea of her style is surprisingly similiar to mine.
I don't think Mulan is a fan of marital arts as many commentators suggested. She didn't study them for entertainment in the movie and I don't think she has need to study them in modern days. Chess is something she obviously enjoys.

What I don't get is why you made her dance.
There is nothing wrong with dancing ( did for years myself) but one of the core characteristics of her character is that she fights and excels in it instead of being good at the more traditional feminine pasttimes.
Β The whole point of Mulan for me was that here we got a tomboyish female heroine and that it was okay.
She was admired for it and she wasn't considered a freak.
In my opinion for Mulan to be Mulan she has to practice some form of martial art.

Their is actually a form of dance that involves 'fighting' of sorts known as slam dancing and the hip-hop dance styles like bone breaking are more masculine dancing is a very masculine sport so I could see Mulan as a dancer. Also she hangs around with Shang a lot who is into martial arts so she probably dabbles a bit in each of the fightingΒ styles.

Oh I know that there are very martial-arts-like dances just as there are very dance-like martial arts.
I know of both and have practiced both. Both are hard and require a lot of discipline and dedication to do right. Both require some of the same physical attributes ( balance, coordination, flexibility etc).
But as I said before my beef is not per se about the dancing itself. My beef is with the fact that the dancing replaced the martial arts. Because in the end one is still meant to look good and the other is meant to kick ass. And that can make all the difference in the world. (For example when you're trapped in an alley with a mugger or in the case of Mulan, trapped on a roof with an irate Mongol Horde leader)
There wouldn't have been a story if Mulan didn't fight. The whole movieΒ is about the fact that she put on armor and kicked some mongol ass all by herself instead of waiting for her prince charming to do it for her. To take that away is to do the whole character of Mulan a great disservice.
