Ok so, this is the whooooole view of this unbelievable beauty!
This pond was built as a tribute to Luís Carrisso, the man whose face appears on the monument on top.

Luís Carrisso (1886-1937) was a renowned portuguese botanist, born at Figueira da Foz, Portugal, in 1886. He was appointed director of the Botanical Garden of Coimbra in 1918, and continued the work of professor Júlio Henriques in enriching the Herbarium of the Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra. Carrisso also directed several scientific expeditions for that purpose in Portuguese territory and developed the collection of species of African flora. He died prematurely on an expedition in Angola, more specifically at the Namib Desert, in 1937. His monument was created by José dos Santos, in 1948.
