Description First of all I apologize for the picture quality. I didn't want to rip this out of my sketchbook so I couldn't scan it which led to me taking a picture of it with my phone.

-----------------------

So Alpha and Omega is a guilty pleasure movie of mine (only the first one, the sequels don't exist), and I'm also a fan of Bobsheaux's reviews of them, and whenever he criticized moments in the movies and offered better plot points they could have used, it makes me wonder how I would change up the movie if I were to remake it.

So even though nobody asked, here's what I would do in an Alpha and Omega remake:

So the plot is basically the same, but I decided to add more to the characters.

Kate and Humphrey were inseparable best friends as pups, but one day when they were beginning to reach adolescence, it was time for them to part ways and go to their respective schools; Humphrey went to Omega School, where he was taught all about the fine art of comedy and the different genres of comedy, while Kate went to Alpha School, where she would learn how to hunt and fight and become a strong leader. Humphrey was sad to leave Kate, but he knew they'd see each other again after graduating.

Fast-forward to Spring, and Kate and Humphrey have each reached adulthood and have graduated at the top of their classes. Humphrey is excited to see Kate again, but when he finds her he discovers that she's no longer the carefree pup he grew up with. Not only had she grown strong and muscular, she was now 100% focused on her duty as future alpha and had no time for fun.

Now, that isn't to say Humphrey didn't take his job seriously. Quite the opposite. Even though some snooty wolves might look down on Omegas for just being the court jesters, Humphrey takes his job very seriously and is proud of his craft. He knows alphas have tough lives, and it's important to give them some humor in their lives and allow them to relax after a hard day. Humphrey loves putting smiles on even the most hard-hearted wolves.

What made Humphrey sad about Kate was that he was in love with her, and ever since their childhood, Humphrey's favorite thing to do was make Kate laugh. Now, it seemed Kate didn't even smile anymore. Whenever Humphrey tried to talk to her, she brushed him off told him she was busy. Humphrey had heard stories about how brutal alpha training could be, but it broke his heart to see Kate turn so cold.

Kate did have a good reason to be focused on her job, however. The pack was experiencing a huge famine, which lead to lots of tension with the Eastern Pack. The leaders of both respective packs were old rivals; Kate's father Winston was very stern but still a kind and just leader and a good father. Tony, the leader of the Eastern Pack, was the more vicious of the two, and he had the scars to show it. Although he was getting on in age, he had a reputation as being the most ruthless fighter in the entire valley, making him someone not to be messed with. With both packs suffering due to the famine, the two old rivals had decided on a deal; Winston's eldest daughter Kate would marry Tony's only son Garth, and the two packs would finally be united as one. Kate is shocked by the news, but she knows this is for the good of the pack, and agrees.

Now onto Garth.

On the outside, Garth looks like the perfect alpha. He's strong, good-looking and considered a heartthrob among wolves. He constantly gives off an air of confidence, but on the inside he's actually insecure. His father isn't the most loving of fathers, and throughout Garth's childhood Tony focused more on training him to be a powerful future alpha than he did actually raising him as a son. Even before Garth entered Alpha School, Tony trained him constantly, leaving no time for young Garth to socialize with the other pups.
Garth knew his father's reputation as the most powerful fighter of all the packs, and he knew he had a lot to live up to, so even from a young age he was devoted to making himself the alpha his father wanted him to be. Garth did grow up to be a strong fighter and skilled hunter like his father wanted, but there was still something Garth was ashamed of. His howl.

In this wolf society, howling is an important part of wolf courtship. If a wolf can't howl, they'll fail to attract a mate, and are seen as embarrassments (side note, one of my favorite things in the movie is that from the wolves point of view, howling sounds like singers harmonizing together. I thought that was really clever). Garth had a terrible howl, but kept this a secret from his father, because he knew if he failed to attract a mate and produce offspring, his father would disown him.

The next night when Kate meets Garth for the first time, she's impressed when she lays eyes on him and notices his strong build. When they talk, things hit off well. When Garth howls for her, however, she is repulsed. She tries to hide her repulsion by excusing herself as politely as she can, and she runs off. There she meets Humphrey, who tries cheering her up, but Kate snaps at him. Unbeknownst to them, two rangers are about to tranquilize them for relocation.

The next morning, Kate and Humphrey wake up in crates, and when they're released they find themselves in an unfamiliar territory. Humphrey decides they should find someone who can explain where they are, and he spots a goose and a duck (yes, they're still here, but in this version they actually are funny and likeable characters unlike the annoying characters in the movie. And they don't golf because that's stupid). Kate scoffs at Humphrey's idea to talk to birds, but the two of them turn out to be very helpful. They explain to Kate and Humphrey that the rangers relocated them to Idaho to repopulate, and the two wolves are shocked. The birds agree to help them get home, and the adventure starts.

Along the way, Humphrey tries cheering up Kate, but she ignores him and remains focused on the mission. One night, Kate finally snaps at Humphrey and tells him there's more to life than laughing and playing all day, and tells him to grow up. To her shock, Humphrey snaps back at her, explaining why his job is important for the pack, and how his role is just as important to the pack as any other role, even if he doesn't fight or hunt.

After that, Kate regrets snapping at Humphrey, and starts to lighten up. Slowly but surely, Humphrey reminds her what it's like to have fun, and the of them grow to respect each other's roles in the pack, no matter the differences. Kate eventually opens up to him about how much stress she's under to constantly worry about being the alpha her parents want her to be and the expectations of ruling an entire pack, and she admits that being with Humphrey these past few days helped her relieve her stress, and she thanks him.

Meanwhile back at home, Tony is outraged by Kate's disappearance and threatens war with the Western Pack. Winston pleads with Tony to give them until the next full moon to find Kate, and after much harsh convincing, Tony agrees. In the meantime, Garth meets Kate's younger sister, Lilly.

Unlike her sister, Lilly was an omega. She was born a runt and was clumsy since puphood, making her unsuitable for a hunter and fighter. Even though Lilly was loved by her parents, it was obvious to her that Kate was their favorite. At first, Lilly wished she could have been born strong so she could be an alpha like her sister, but then she later decided that if she couldn't make her parents proud as an alpha like her sister, she would embrace her role in the pack and make her parents proud as an omega. From that moment on, young Lilly became dedicated to becoming the best omega she could be.

Kate and Lilly were very close as pups, but once Kate grew into adulthood, she started to see her younger sister as an embarrassment, and distanced herself away from her. This obviously broke Lilly's heart, and made her once again come to resent her role in the pack. Lilly had always been shy and therefore had trouble making friends, and after being ignored by her sister and only friend, she became a loner in the pack, constantly moping by herself.

When Garth first saw Lilly, he was amazed by how beautiful she was. When he went to talk to her, she reacted in surprise that someone as strong and handsome as Garth took notice of her. The two start hanging out together, and they each admit their insecurities to each other. When Garth bashfully tells her about his howl, she decides to teach him how to improve it. With her help, Garth is able to change his howl into a howl so beautiful that Lilly falls in love as soon as she hears it.

Lilly also admits to Garth how she's come to resent her role in the pack, but Garth tells her how he wishes he could have had omega friends when he was a child due to his harsh upbringing. Lilly decides to use her knowledge from Omega School to have fun with Garth and make him laugh. Garth is finally truly happy for the first time in his life, and this makes Lilly realize just how important being an Omega truly is.

At the same time Garth and Lilly have their romantic howling scene, Kate and Humphrey have theirs as well like in the movie. Kate hears Humphrey howl, and is instantly smitten by his voice. She howls with him, and realizes she's fallen in love with him.

So like in the movie they get back to their pack, Kate and Garth are about to get married but end up confessing their loves to their omega sweethearts, a min war breaks out but then all is well and everyone's free to marry whoever they want.

So that's it. As you can see I mainly focused on remaking the characters than I did on the story. The movie is still a guilty pleasure of mine, but I just thought this would be fun to do.

In the drawing, I made Humphrey and Lilly look skinnier than Kate and Garth since they weren't trained to be strong alphas like Kate and Garth. I also tried to give Kate and Garth slightly more realistic colors instead of having Kate be orange with a white underbelly. The only thing about the drawing that I don't like is that I think I made Lilly look more like a fox than a wolf. I'll try to improve that next time.

Holy crap, this is way better than the original (even the design colors are realistic) because some of the movie scenes like with Humphrey's bros didn't really need to happen it, I like them, but I want them to give more personality. But with that being said some parts of the movie were iconic and add the film to get its distinct look of it.

Anyway, this movie was my childhood growing up and I didn't know they had any sequels until Bobsheaux reviewed all of them.

Funny about this is I also want to make a remake of A&O designs and looks of the characters. While they look okay and good at best, the deleted scene from the original movie looked ten times better than it need to be. So excited to see if you can (or cannot, I understand the horrors) of remaking the sequels with a better plot, characters and names.
