Description Transparent watercolor, about 20 by 20, with the utilization of salt and isopropyl alcohol (which i don't recommend)

This piece is a response to the observation of human relationships with technology. I'm not saying that relationship is bad or good, just that it exists, and intrigues me.

This piece got me "best of watercolor" in a show last semester.

The best mandala Iยดve seen in months!!! The ribbon is almost real.

It wasn't really intended to be a mandala, at least not in the Buddhist or Hindu sense of the word. But it is round, and it is something sort of intangible, and creating it was certainly meditative, tedious, and challenging all at the same time. Especially when you consider that each "layer" of the image I created in halves, thirds, or ninths, that each had to correspond with the ins and outs of the other layers. Very challenging--a whole lot of math, redo's and prefiguring on tracing paper and test painting!

It's interesting and I like that you think of it that way. Thanks.

No problem!!! I call almost any round drawing with a center a mandala!! I can see that you put a lot of effort in the layers calculating them. I know that must have been a lot of work.

is that a comment on watercolor in general, or my watercolor?

I agree: I am indeed charmed by watercolor. And if its a comment on my watercolor, well, thank you!

Human relationships with technology! Very interesting. I can relate to that. I rode my bicycle to work in rain & snow, in sun or 20 below zero to GE Medical Systems where I was a Digital Imaging Specialist for Radiology. (We can be human & technical!)

yep, and my other work, Plastic is along the same lines. It's sort of the seedling start of a series dedicated to that topic with some reoccurring visual themes. I have yet to work out additional watercolors, but It's a plan at least!

It's always nice to have projects in waiting. I go from drawing to writing to working on wood in my wood shop and if I want to relax, I take a mountain bike ride with my camera.

I like the way as you go from the centre of the image to the outside the know gets formed in the ribbon

yeah, that was part of my intention, symbolizing the growth and complexity of the technology that we depend on.
