Yes well... I didn't sketch since my childhood and now after 30 years of not sketching, this is where I am after 3 months.
So... being rusty is no excuse
Also we 3D artists have an advantage I think, because we already have a "creative" way of looking at things (light/dark, colors, lighting,... stuff like that).

About the light/dark colours... you are right that I have begun to appreciate it better after dabbling with 3D.
