Description After a bit of delay, I finally got a reasonable bio for my jester knight OC Alyx Riari. For reference I've included all three pics of him I've either had commissioned or gifted. The first two, including Alyx in his casual attire, were created by my good friend ~Novasiri , whereas the drawing was done via a kiriban by *KMCgeijyutsuka

Enjoy! There will be more to come soon!

Art belongs to their respective creators, char is mine.

Basic info

Character name: Alyx Riari
Race: Human
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 136 lbs.
Eye color: Blue
Profession: Jester Knight

Description (w/ jester outfit)

Head: Wears a traditional-looking jester cap. Several tendrils that extend out every which way, down as far as the tips of his shoulders. Most of them hang towards the back with two prominent ones on the sides of his head. Tuffs of blue hair are glued to the inside of the cap's rim and stick out from the sides, making it look like his actual hair when he has the cap on.

Makeup: Face, neck and ears are painted an opaque white. Blue diamonds outlined in black are drawn sideways over his eyes. Most of his lips are painted blue with the corners of his mouth remaining white. His hands remain clean except for his nails, which are dyed in dark blue.

Upper body: Around the base of his neck is a collar of blue silk that extends down to his upper chest. His chest and abdomen are covered in a tunic with the left side in white and the right side in blue. Past his waist (under where his belt is), the shirt extends down to his thighs and the colors switch sides. A thick purple belt is wrapped around his waist with various implements hooked onto it, including a pouch for holding trinkets or tools as the task demands, and his rapier's scabbard. His arms are covered in long sleeves that have a blue-and-white diamond motif to them that runs in the same direction as his arms. The sleeves end on both arms end at the wrists in larger white frilly silk cuffs.

Lower Body: His legs are covered in form-fitting white spandex leggings that start from under his shirt, down to his ankles. From a little ways above his ankles, his feet are covered in blue silk boots, with a round bell attached to the outside of each boot's collar.

Description (w/o jester outfit)

Alyx appears far more commonplace as his normal self. His hair is worn wavy yet short, to make it easier to hide when in costume. His typical traveling attire is a powder blue tunic with the ends of the sleeves outlined in brown. A simple brown belt holds his waist up along with a large pouch, usually containing tools for performing simpler tricks. Gray pants run down his legs into sturdy leather lace-up boots. His nails are left dyed in dark blue, as a touch of color for his "casual" performances and to lend credence to his guise as a protege to the jester.

Weapons/Abilities

-A rapier of fine, thin steel, designed more for thrusting rather than slicing. The blade is attached to a v-shaped copper-colored handguard, and extends into a grip and pommel of the same color.

-He can magically summon multicolored silk ribbons that emerge from under his sleeves that can be used to attach to objects, wrap up enemies, distract foes, or as just part of performing. The ribbons are intrinsically commanded by him once summoned and can be made to stretch or contort depending on how much concentration he directs into them. Complicated tasks or command of many ribbons at once can be more taxing if not done carefully.

Background

Alyx Riari was born within Castle Rilhald, the center of the kingdom of Osyrin. His mother, a senior lady-in-waiting within the castle's hierarchy, died shortly after his birth due to post-birth complications. No one knew who Alyx's father was, and if his mother was aware of his identify, she never divulged it. Not wanting to deny the child a chance at living his life, the King of Osyrin made the whole of Rilhald his surrogate family. Many of the other ladies-in-waiting that his mother had worked by became his collective mothers, raising Alyx as properly as they could.

As Alyx matured, he began to develop an almost natural knack for folly. His adventurous senses pushed him to explore Rilhald even further, to uncover as many secrets as he could. Though his antics would sometimes command those higher up to warn him into peeking into manners not concerning him, he somehow knew how to straddle that fine line that would keep him in good graces with the court. As he neared his teens, he was gradually becoming restless, unsure where else to channel his energy.

The answer appeared to him one day in a form clad in silk and ruffles. The court had its share of traveling jesters and buffoons, looking to seek the king's favor and coin with their performances. That day marked the first time that Alyx paid attention in full to the jester. The way he moved like he was on air, the dexterity he possessed that made simple tricks appear to be guided by magic, the tongue that twisted his wit in ways that commanded listens to respond with laughter. The boy now had a calling.

He sought out all the resources Rilhald had at its disposal. Royal libraries filled with tomes of stories far and wide. The training spaces used normally by the guardsmen to the king, when unoccupied became his gymnasium. The ladies-in-waiting that had reared him now became his teachers in arts of the hand and mind, whether it'd seamstry, ediquette or even beauty. But there was one other set of lessons that would fall onto a particular individual.

That individual went by the name of Donovan, captain of the guard. The pairing of the battle-hardened man with the entertainer-in-training was an odd one, yet it was allowed to exist. Perhaps he understood on some level of what Alyx had missed out on in those early years. He himself had no wife, having lost her years ago to the wars the kingdom participated in older times, and thus no son to play the widower to. The lessons he imparted to Alyx mirrored those of his own life. He knew Alyx had no place being a soldier, but his natural dexterity was something he knew to work with. He pulled fewer and fewer punches as Alyx matured, whether it be in the conduct of a gentleman or how to take a pommel to the ribs. He knew when was the right time to push the boy further, yet maintained a fairness in all lessons.

Spurned by all his lessons , Alyx's favor with the court grew gradually with every joke and every step he danced. He became a necessity at the king's side for words of guidance, or to provide unique, if twisted at times, interpretations of the tribulations his majesty weighed on a daily basis. It only took one night for his rise to stardom within the court to come crashing down. A shriek by one of the ladies-in-waiting hearlded the end for both Alyx and Donovan, the latter found in a pool of his own blood with a dagger in his back. A dagger adorned with a blue handguard, and the only tool of defense Alyx had been permitted to own. Alyx did the only sure thing in the ensuing chaos and escaped from the only home he had known. Whether he was branded murderer, traitor, or both, he cared little for titles and only for his own well-being.

After many travels, the young man came to realize a silver lining with a hint of cruelness to it. He was on his own now, but in a world that dared him in the same ways that the towers of Rilhald had as a boy. At the same time, he saw the injustices that man could commit when not under the checks of regality, and sometimes even under the guise of such. If he was going to atone for his sins of cowardance, he declared to himself he would do it in the way he was raised, and that evil would be sincerely greeted by a smile in blue...

Excellent! He really is such an interesting character!

Can I ask if he and his trainer Donovan were just really good friends or if there was perhaps more intimacy to their relationship? Sorry if that's a weird or odd question but I was just curious and either pairing makes for some really emotional and wonderful storytelling!

It would be great to read more about him!

I probably wouldn't call it intimate, but there's a certain respect Donovan had for Alyx. He recognized that they both endured similar hardships in life with having to live without their loved ones. Alyx looked to him as someone that showed that respect was commanded by just story-telling and parlor tricks. He was one of the few people in Alyx's life that taught him what the "real world" was like. It's not a pretty place outside castle walls, those that don't like your company won't hesitate to playing dirty, and to command respect and honor, sometimes you have play even dirtier.
