Another story of mine, actually from last year's NaNoWriMo. I missed the deadline of the event due to a crazy work schedule eating all my time, but I've been picking at the story through the year as ideas arise.

Kaiath is a young sand dragon adopted by the main character. Sand dragons are difficult to establish a gender until they reach maturity, though Kaiath does express some female tendencies so "she" tends to be the pronoun used for her. A sand dragon's "eyes", visibly, are huge gold domes that safeguard the actual eyes underneath. It's difficult to tell where a sand dragon is looking due to these shields. The gold shields have their own set of eyelids for expression, though here she's quite excitedly enamored with a piece of her "father"'s jewelry commission.
Sand dragons also have two sets of frills guarding their earholes. The foremost is larger and is often kept down, but can flare with emotion, and its primary purpose is to cover the earhole in the event of a sandstorm. The rear frill is used mostly for greater expression and communication, and for funneling sound to the ear. The fore frill can also be used in tandem to catch sounds, primarily those from behind.
Their bodies are fairly streamlined; when a harsh wind strikes their desert home, they often line themselves up into the wind and hunker down into a bullet form with their wings tucked tight around their sides and legs.

This one I'm not very satisfied with, but I was a bit rushed and indecisive. But, I feel like I'm getting faster already with translating what I see in my head to the tablet, sooooo...I consider this sketch a failure in terms of form, but for execution it's a step to success I suppose.
