Personal hypothesis = Zaeed Massani is -- however distantly -- ethnic Adyghe (Circassian). Zaeed Massani's ancestors descend from those Central Asian Adyghe who went to live in Syria. Zaeed Massani was abandoned as a baby and grew up in a very bad and disagreeable orphanage in Syria.
Fan fiction written at fanfiction.com, by the one who calls himself AssaultSloth (who is not me) says that when he was a teenager Zaeed went to make money fighting in a civil war in South Africa. In our time, this war has not yet occurred.
