Above the pit the school gathered. It’s dark, shifting form comprised of a myriad of shadows that swam in unison as if operating as one. At once they descend, down into the darkness below in order to seek out a treasure they had lost.

“Hello, again my love.” Greeted Equinox from below. The descending shoal of fish swam in close to her, their purplish glow fading into that of green as the distance narrowed.

Maribeth watched, taking her hands off the power box she had been keeping alive for the sake of Maggie and Zoe far along the path to the capitol.

”Oh, you aren’t all here, are you?” Asked Equinox to the school of shadows. The fish came closer still, their attention focusing in the sea witch as if waiting for food.

”Ah, of course not, you still need your mind, and your heart…” Equinox said, a symbol on her chest glowing bright green. It was the same as the symbol that held the fraction of a divisible god at the stop sign. The fish drew in towards the symbol, as if it was some kind of lure.

”Oh you poor thing, I swear I will make sure you become whole again, my love.” Equinox said as she tried to kiss the tenebrous shoal. The fish scattered at the attempt, creating a line of sight between Equinox and Maribeth once more.

”Uhhh… that’s just weird.” Maribeth mumbled awkwardly.

”Like you would remember any better.” Equinox shot back.

”I would if you’d actually give me that back.” Maribeth retorted, trying to make Equinox own up to a promise.

”I’d let you if he was complete, but alas, his great mind is still locked away in the deep, and all this is but a finger of his lovely visage!” Equinox said, blushing as she remembered something from before.

”You got your weird boyfriend, I want my memory back. You gave me literally none of it except for the part where I had a family and someone I love! Please, I want to know who I was before-“ Maribeth starts raising her voice in desperation but Equinox cuts in.

”Did I not just tell you that he isn’t whole? You only get your memories back once he is complete,” Equinox said as she swims closer to Maribeth, the school of dark fish close behind, “now get back to that box and keep that power flowing, we don’t want our sweet little minnow getting lost to the most critical piece now do we?”

”Ugh, fine…” Maribeth said, defeated. Wether she liked it or not, she was at the witch’ mercy. As she put her hands back on the wires of a long dead power grid, she asked herself if her memories were even worth it… and the lights to the deep reignited after their momentary rest.
