Description

This is just for shits and giggles amongst the Hetalians and whoever else likes this.
Now to you historic old fuddy-duddies, I know well enough as to when something is considered a language and yadda, yadda, yadda.
No it's not German, because Prussia existed before Germany, but there were Germanic Tribes. Just like Native American tribes, there were variations of a similar dialect.

Turns out there IS a Prussian language.... huh
As seen here: www.britannica.com/topic/Old-P…

Enjoy friends. c:

Does Prussia even exist anymore? I was under the impression that it was broken down as modern Germany formed. Or is it like a municipality/state inside the country?

Also... is Prussian really a separate language?

Prussia isn't a country anymore, not sure if it's a state, but the country broke down in 1947. It's official language was German but it is to be expected that other languages were spoken in Prussia too due to it's size.

Probably o:
There's always some groups out there that like to speak forgotten languages; like Latin or the languages of Native American tribes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LastMinuteDotCom In reply to Icy-Roulette [2016-06-11 08:00:05 +0000 UTC]

I think it's cool to try and revive or learn forgotten languages. The Cornish language spoken in England has been brought back.

Latin is still widely used so it never really went "extinct"

It's more different from modern German than I actually thought, I know it has slavic influence, but I thought they were a bit more similar lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TalesOfColor In reply to LastMinuteDotCom [2016-03-29 18:38:54 +0000 UTC]

german is insane regarding dialects anyways

yep
the dialect had a baltic influence, from the old baltic prussian language that died out hundreds of years ago
with many words from the old baltic prussian language
the german prussian has/had its own prussian dictionary
ive read through some of the words
never heard them before

but austria and switzerland have respective dictionaries as well

only a few people speak the old dialect anymore though
dialects are dying out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LastMinuteDotCom In reply to TalesOfColor [2016-03-29 19:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Norwegian is the same with dialects, but in Norway there is no "standard dialect"
I'm not sure if the same exists in the German language.
I know in Bavaria, they have their own dialect that's a lot different.
Swiss German has some noticeable differences, but I don't know any between Austrian and German.

It's unfortunate that dialects die out, well for me it is. A lot of the English dialects are dying out too.

I know your comment was a while ago, but I also noticed nobody pointed out the fact that this language level is actually just a joke. Sure Prussian is a dialect, but this was mostly made as a reference to the Hetalia character Prussia.

Didn't know if you knew that. So I kinda wanted to point that out. >w>

c:

like every language, there is a dialect and older versions. Latin certainly didn't stay just latin forever, and the german language wasn't even German at the time Prussia was around; just variations Germanic languages.

The Prussian language just went extinct in the late 1800s.
