I think Salandit's technically a newt (a salamander sub-type). I guess this is more of a Shiny Charizard-colored Charmander.
(I found an actual newt the other day, but it was underwater so I couldn't get a clear shot.)

Actually, it may be more closely related to Lickitung!
I was doing some research and now I'm convinced that Lickitung is based on lungless salamanders. This particular species doesn't, but many lungless salamanders (which aren't "true salamanders") have projectile tongues, some even being able to launch their hyoid bone out of their mouth (along with their tongue) to maximize their reach. The "Kentuckian Charmander" I posted before is one such species, so I guess it's really more of a Lickitung (which I'm more than okay with, Lickitung being one of my original favorite PokΓ©mon; gives me an excuse to add it to my "IRL team").
Have you ever noticed that Lickitung always appears in damp places (at least in the main games)? In caves, near water, on rainy routes... That's probably because lungless salamanders need to keep their skin hydrated to breathe.
