I think it's about tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse or probably some kind of medication (because of the longish pill looking thing that is inside of the capsule) - something that makes us temporally happy in times when darkness eats up everything inside of us that makes us human.Β
The reason why some people use these things, as horrible and sad as it sound, is because it boosts their confidence, fills them with adrenaline and makes them feel emotionally full and alive again, even though the side-effects are making them slowly wither away, psychically and mentally.
Anyway, It's just my opinion made up from my personal experience and it's not meant to be what artist intended. Because this piece can be anything. Because this is what surreal art and any other art can do: It has the capability to make calm people disturbed and calm down the disturbed ones.
