I love how cheery it looks at first and then you start to notice the subtle hints. The areas around the eyes look like you've been crying, some of it is still in your left eye, and the expression kind of looks fearful or shying away at the same time your trying to maintain contact.

Inner turmoil cannot always be accurately represented in appearance, I suppose. But, I know that it is there within me and if it didn't come across in the photograph then I guess I'll keep that in mind for next time. If you have any suggestions on how I can better convey emotion (I'm not sure such things can be taught?), that would be much appreciated. Otherwise, your criticism isn't really very constructive... which, is probably something you should work on, if you don't mind me saying so.

the piece doesn't lend itself to much feedback...poor composition, lack of mid-tones, and a complete lack of expression in the subject. Β constructive criticism implies there is something that can be improved upon, but as the title of the piece and the result are at such extreme opposites, i stand by my original comments. Β or, for one who not be used to subtlety in language; try again. Β

Sometimes the piece isn't about what others think about it, but what the artist was trying to get across. Now, that's your opinion, but I don't agree and with the way you are being, combative and generally rude with your comments, offering no real criticism I see no reason to allow your comments to stay on MY work. Especially since I asked you for advise and your response was to say there's nothing that can be improved upon, then why bother commenting in the first place?

Thank you so much for saying that! I was beginning to feel pretty upset about his comments... I'm glad you agree that I should block him, because that's exactly what I did. And I don't relish doing that either, but when there's no constructive criticism involved it really just isn't necessary and doesn't help anyone, least of all me..

Hell, I blocked him as soon as I saw his comments and his account. He also seemed like the type that'd attack me for defending you and defying his hate comments.

I would not listen to this individual (fanshaw19 ). He is adding nothing to the DeviantArt by his inflammatory comments and put down on other members work. He has no postings of any kind, only mean comments that is not in the least productive.
I blocked him and hope more people do the same. Β

Agreed, I noticed that as well... That is what really bugs me about him and others like him. They have no problem putting down other people's work but don't even have the courage to produce any of their own to prove that they are some kind of art expert. It's clear they aren't. More people should block him because one negative comment can really ruin someone's day. Especially if its a self-portrait like mine was, then its personal. But, ah well...Β
