I wasn't born in the 80's but my mom grew up as a teen around that time and watched it.
She found DVDΒ complete set of the first season at Target when I was 10, we watched it and I loved Punky ever since.

Even though I see it's more of a sitcom. The 80's sure was a decade which disco inspired neon colors where overused as a visual fashion statement for TV productions.
