i just did a sketch-y thing of these two that i adopted awhile back, i did this in between some art fight stuff because im stuck in a art rut

but this is a little switch-a-roo rupphire, royal ruby is a cutesy femme and royal sapphire is a battle-ready sapphire. royal ruby didn't want to be a warrior and is a pacifist after she ended up seeing a bunch of her friends be shattered in the war, while royal sapphire uses her very quick future vision to predict enemy's moves when she fights (with a little laser pistol she has as a weapon).
they only fuse into a garnet sometimes, not a lot or for battle (because again, royal ruby is a pacifist), it just happens.

they both were around for the gem war against earth, both fighting for the diamond's side at first and managed to miss the corruption blast because they made it to the ships before it hit. that's where their relationship started to blossom after royal sapphire helped royal ruby onto the ship and they felt a odd connection in them. royal sapphire started to visit royal ruby often and sometimes royal ruby would give her tips and tricks on how to do certain fighting stuff while on break, royal sapphire started to like fighting more then she did all the royal highness type of stuff and started to get into fights with other gems pretty often, only being brushed off because she was such a high ranking gem. though she knew what had to do, royal sapphire started making plans to head to earth or just anywhere else but here with royal ruby, because she saw constantly how royal ruby would break down in tears and nearly poof from stress nearly every time she was forced to fight and knew her shattering was going to happen.
royal ruby gained access to a ruby ship and royal sapphire piloted it and they started to mindless wander space alone, seeing if they could reach earth or a non-homeworld controlled planet. in that time they started to develop a deeper bond and just being alone comforted them a great deal and they reformed themselves a bit afterwards. they didn't crash land onto earth until nearly 10+ years later, after all these years alone together, it felt weird to just interact with anyone but they soon began to form the bond with other gems and remain close as ever.

i swear i have non-ruby & non-sapphire gem ocs. but i just love rubies and sapphires and adopted them......
