Her hair and eyes are amazing. The paint/markings/smudges could have been better, they feel artificial. I would have made any imperfections actually be part of the markings rather than random-seeming smudges of paint. Dirt and ash would be ok if they had been everywhere, including her rather conspicuously clean face.

haha, yea, that was what i was worried about. we were using the jcpenny portrait studio in the mall (i work there now) and we went into the bathroom to put the paint on, so i was trying to hurry. I looked at some tribal pictures and a lot of them seemed to actually not look dirty but purposeful, but really that i not what we have in mind when we think about indians. And yea, i forgot to put on paint on her face, that was stupid. lol

The thing to keep in mind is that most tribes don't paint themselves purely for decoration; they usually have some kind of meaning behind them. Also, while they may not be "advanced" in the way we think about it, they tend to spend a great deal more time and care with everything they make than we do. There is nothing crude about their art!
