No one can out-blush Alphys. She's not even blushing at 100% MAXIMUM power yet!

Her claws, once known for their skill and dexterity in crafting all manner of mechatronics, are now completely helpless. She feels ashamed of what Undyne will think of her when she sees her like this. But we all know Undyne is a chubby chaser. Only now she'll be more like a blubber chaser. But she won't have to do any literal "chasing."

Alphys is so much like me in so many ways! For me, it was always performance anxiety rather than social anxiety. When Alphys is "in her element" (she actually has more than one of those), she's totally an achievement-driven go-getter. Just like me, she has a pathological need to feel useful. Now that she's helpless, she feels ashamed because she can't do any of the things that made her feel useful to others. But now the lesson she has to learn is that people will love her unconditionally, not for what she can do for them, but just because. Which is a lesson I think a lot of us (certainly me) need to learn. Am I right?

So how did she end up like this? How about this for a backstory: Toriel made her do some community service to make up for the whole Amalgamate fiasco. Alphys was eager to make amends anyway, so she plunged into the project with gusto. She figured out a way to use Determination to give the Amalgamates superpowers and restore the individuality of each consciousness within each Amalgamate. Since Undyne had been exposed to Determination, she eventually developed superpowers too. Now Undyne has a psychic link with all the Amalgamates, plus they have a psychic link with each other. Alphys also exposed herself to her own Determination recipe (which means she too has a psychic link with all of them), but because of her exposure to human fo0d, it turned her into a blubber blob. So since she finished her community service, and was now a blob, Toriel sentenced her to be fattened up forever, a "prisoner" within her own jiggling flesh. And Undyne was assigned to be her "warden!" Of course, Undyne was overjoyed by this. Imagine the lo0k on Undyne's face being like a cross between that anime cat smile she does (which she only does when she's thinking about Alphys) and The Grinch grinning from ear to ear!

As for the whole "psychic link" thing, Undyne and the "Omega Amalgamates" always know all of Alphys's thoughts, feelings, and sensations. They love making her feel loved, but they also have an ornery side (especially Undyne), so they like to "torment" her with overwhelming sensory bliss (which typically involves lots and lots of full-body tickles). Naturally, everyone loves making her blush.
