Description The Ignis Class marks the start of a new generation of Imperial warships, built smaller and more capable than previous warship classes commissioned in the Kriegsmarine Araxia (the Imperial Navy). Built in the Corvette class of warship, the Ignis provides the Imperial Navy with distant screening actions as part of the fleet they are attached to and provides the ability and capability to effectively carry out long range offensive missions independently away from a fleet for up to several months without the need for resupply. When detached from a fleet, these corvettes are known to carry out missions such as the transport special forces units, long range reconnaissance or humanitarian missions.

The designer, Schneesturm Schliffswerf,  is a company born from them becoming independent from the Walkure Motorisiert company that produced Araxia's most advanced ground and air vehicles. Although they are responsible for the construction of their own ship designs, much of the work has now been passed to the Adler Mechanical Yards naval shipbuilding company after their contract with the Reichswehr to repair and refit their ships expired upon the completion of the final last gen Battlecruiser.

Armament:
2x2 51cm Model 9 Plasma Railgun
1x1 5cm AK450 CIWS
4x1 160cm Torpedo Tubes (Type-I only)

As part of the design, All Ignis Class Corvettes are fitted with a hangar in the mission module space that can launch and recover most Imperial starfighters and some special transports. These can be modified to carry more cargo, fit electronic warfare suites, launch drones, deploy mines or carry out any other mission the Kriegsmarine might have for a small ship.

Ignis Type-I & Type-IA
The Type-I shown here is part of the first ships of the Ignis Class commissioned by the Imperial Navy. These ships were test beds for new ideas and only a handful were ever produced (K-4400 through to K-4406), they had unusually heavy armament in the form of the main battery and equally unusually weak defensive armament. Despite this, the ships performed well during initial field trials and later naval exercises where the ships showed off their greater tactical mobility over the older corvettes and frigates, constantly able to evade and defend against a technically superior opponent.

However, problems still existed where the main battery suffered from mechanical and electrical reliability in the turret rotation and elevation and high ammunition consumption. The most notable improvement in the new design that would be carried forth into future designs was the use of a plasma railgun over the more proven railguns seen on similarly sized ships. This choice of weapon on paper gave the Ignis a good chance of taking on destroyers and even cruisers in a one on one engagement, made even more likely given the four bow mounted torpedo launchers installed to be able to launch the most powerful Araxian guided weapon in production; the sustained fusion torpedo. Unfortunately, the bow mounted torpedoes would be removed and the main battery replaced by a more versatile main battery.

Although K-4402 was not named by the Imperial navy as is typical of most Imperial warships, the crew took to giving it a name after its poor performance during a series of electrical and mechanical failures during deployments. Reports repeat over and over that the turrets would often not complete a full traverse and the gun elevation mechanisms would often disconnect and stop the turret from rotating. The engines were also known to violently flameout due to problems in the pipes that fed liquid oxidizer to the combustion chamber.

Production of Type-Is known as Type-IA continue to be produced with improvements made to the base design.

Ignis Type-II
The most common production of the Ignis Class Corvette. Type-IIs remove the bow torpedo tubes and have them replaced by a cargo bay, allowing the ammunition compartment to expand forwards into one of the two original cargo spaces. This solved the high ammunition consumption. Further improvements were made to the fire control systems and weapon turrets. The engine design was improved to prevent flameouts. Aside from the missing torpedo tube doors, the Type-IIs are completely identical to the Type-Is.

Ignis Type-III
Type-IIIs are the least common variant, having swapped out their main battery armament for storage, converting one of the two original cargo compartments into torpedo storage and replacing one side of the mission module with electronic warfare equipment and the other side with an EW drone deployment bay. This model carries out the role of a long range missile boat.
