woah....the detail is freaking insane!

couple of questions: how do you make all the intricate chassis bars? are you using a cloning thing or just re-positioning for each one?

and leading on from that...how does your computer not crash and explode when it sees this?

Thanks a lot

You mean on the ship?
The ship (including decks and walls) is actually completely intact, the missing hull pieces and the bars are just two textures with alpha maps.

I don't have a great computer, i just make all parts in different files (the tank farm, the ship, the railroad for example), so i rarely get above 1 mio polys. When I'm finished i just copy them to my main file with most stuff hidden thats finished or not needed for placement.

Rendering was unproblematic, took about 2gb of Ram...

wait, really? so its one ship-like shape and then you just cut out what you didn't need?

thats pretty neat. i've often thought of using that but the amount of work that it'd take in organising the mesh to be painted...well - neat.

so how do you make sure they're placed correctly before you import it? or do you just turn off the different parts and then arrange seperately?

Why spent a lot of work on something that just makes up a few pixels in the end

For most objects i just needed the floor object visible anyway, so i copied them to my file and just moved them around. On rare occasions (like placing small details) i had everything visible, gets slow but still works.

that makes sense. so fair play and well done - it works.
