MelodiA wallpaper, featuring the dA debut of one of my characters set in April's universe: Melodi. She's the daughter of Noelle, an only child. Melodi's notable feature is her blindness.
I doodled some doodles, and a sketch very similar to this one came out of it, so I redid it, and I decided to make a wallpaper of her. ^^
And check out that nice background, eh? Took 9 hours. I managed to find an old, old sketch of mine from three years ago, for the city where they live (Lannion), and I took it into a background. I am so happy with the result. This wallpaper was definitely worth the time. ^^
The background/city design is based off Mediterranean architecture (kind of Venetian or Roman), and I always connect Mediterranean with Renaissance, and I connect Renaissance with culture. Lannion is a cultural city.

I really didn't think I'd actually be able to pull of the background. It started as a sketch, and when I was Lining it, everything was so straight. I kept thinking: "I'm gonna mess it up somehow and lose x hours of work," but that didn't happen.
And, yeah, I took some reference shots of myself to get Melodi's position right. Because this was her debut, and I wanted it to be something unique, taking her blindness into account.

There is a great atmosphere, I think, it's quiet, also poetic... I don't know how to explain but I like the general feeling that it gives. (Yes, reference shots help a lot!!!)

I wanted the atmosphere to be soft and gentle. I aimed at using soft, pastel colors. I think I pulled it off rather well... but I kind of wanted more orange in it, to seem like it's evening. I'm probably going to add some touches later, to try and add the orange-ish glow to it that I originally wanted. But if I can't pull it off, I'm not gonna complain. XD
