Description
Four feral isomara reunited on the beach, waddling awkwardly on their hind legs to a large bowl-shaped rock on the beach, their arms full of berries and sticks and mushrooms and the like. While there wasn’t much actually edible, they had gathered a fair number of supplies for general use purposes--and that they could sell to Pacings later for more food.
Almost as one, they dropped back to all fours, pouring their armloads onto the rock, nearly clunking their heads together and tangling limbs and wings. With some bashful glances they all stumbled back, with Siadam and Siadur chuckling nervously. Siadur settled back on his haunches and flicked his tail around behind him.
“Alright effryone, good work!” the pale blue isomara praised, smiling at the other three. “If nufing else, we can sell f’ese to Pacings and buy real food!”
Iblis twitched her ears at the suggestion and looked to Lir, who shrugged and offered a pleasant smile of agreement to Siadur. Siadam watched curiously, then leaned heavily against her mate’s shoulder and nuzzled into his mane. They needed more food, all of them. Lusamine, her goom friend, crawled up her neck to perch on her head and coo comfortingly and pat her horns.
“There’s probably more food in the water, we can make fish if we really want to.” Sia suggested, and glanced down the beach.
Iblis nodded in eager agreement to this plan, and hauled herself back to all fours, her tail twitching excitedly. Lir’s shoulders shook in amusement and he smiled fondly at his friends and mate. Siadur laughed. “No one wants to give up what little food we found?” he teased. His companions shook their heads and he smiled as he hung his head in amusement. “Alright alright, we’ll go swimming and--” He was cut off by a shrill scream and the furious screech of a memic.
Four heads and one goom body whipped around to the far end of the beach, where a vividly pink memic was charging after an isoling. The brown-coated child was staring somewhere through them in their blind panic.
Lir initially bolted back in shock at the sight of the Memic, and then all four of them were moving, racing towards the little one as fast as their legs could carry them. Siadur took the lead and launched himself into the air, racing over the sand to snatch the child from the Memic’s jaws, kicking out with a hindleg into the memic’s mask for good measure. The creature screamed and staggered back, and leaped up to try to snatch him from the air--only for a splash of vivid multi-colored goom goo to spray onto its neck. It screamed and spun to face its assailants, dark eyes glittering with malice as they locked on the smug looking goom perched on Siadam’s head and clinging to her hair.
Iblis howled and threw herself bodily against the memic, with Lir just a half-step behind her. Their combined weight dragged the memic to the ground, tumbling through the sand, and they kept going once the bird was down to roll out of the way and in unison, turn and race towards the ocean.
“Run!” Siadur called from above, holding the terrified little isoling in his front legs. Siadam hissed and snarled once more at the Memic and then followed the order, throwing herself towards the ocean, hoping that the memic couldn’t swim while Siadur took the little isoling and dove into the ocean.
