18 year old Iisjah just learned that his lifelong dream of being a sailor will never come true.His master Sanet just gave him a lecture on what vampires cannot do - once Iisjah heard that swimming and sailing on open bodies of water, and especially seas and oceans is absolutely not possible for a vampire, his heart sank.
He will never become a sailor and follow his father's, brothers and sister's footsteps, and the dream he harboured for as long as he could remember is now shattered.

Ufp! This is a hard moment for young Iisjah - learning that his dreams were taken from him just like that, by one night of real bad luck, broke his heart into a million pieces.
That night being his death of course. He's just a few weeks (or a couple months max) after Sanet changed him into a vampire (you can read the story and see it here www.deviantart.com/iisjah/art/… and here www.deviantart.com/iisjah/art/… )
As I'm on a young, freshly turned into a vampire, Iisjah kick - next drawing will be something along these lines again. Bit I promise it will be happier!

Just looked though parts one and two and with this... I have very few words left, all I have are feels, feels that will probably keep me up even later at night. I seriously just love your work, doesn't matter if it's a fully rendered scene like this or a simple portrait, it's always so expressive, and really stands out.

So that is how it came about. This is so heartbreaking. Poor Iisjah!
Cradling that ship in a bottle is even making more profound knowing that that is as close as he will ever get!

Yeah - it was the first real low he felt after Sanet turned him - earlier he was still pumped with the prospect of being a vampire (because he's a teenager here and vampires are awesome right?), but knowing more and more he just got more and more depressed about it (the sailing part was one of the more heavy hits).
Not helping was the fact that him being changed was not really his decision - sure he didn't want to die, but I don't think he would choose to become a vampire from his own free will if he could at that moment think clearly.

I thought he could swim and sail in your modern day pics? Or is that non-canon?

I actually drew him just once swimming (and yes it was non canon, or in a giant pool with a shark inside 
He's still pushing his luck getting so near the water, but he doesn't care - if he can't swim he will at least be close to it. (even if the salt water is not that healthy for him and he probably not once not twice accidentally fell into the water - it hurts like hell)
