Description

Courtship entry done in collab with PelusaDeJersey !! We wanted to do a bit of an exploration of the relationship between Odi and Vali, as it's a quite... particular one. Vali barely can differenciate hallucination from reality, which makes it very hard to bond with other dinosaurs, if you don't even know if they're real or a product of your imagination. But Odi, knowing of the outcast since he was pretty young, has grown an interest for Vali, sometimes he checks on him, brings him bits of food, he's one of the very few dinos that, even though Vali is not in his right mind to recognice, have helped him along the way.
I did the drawing part and the beautiful writting bit is done by Pilu <3

Vali knew he was coming way before he crossed his territory. He knew, he was told about his arrival. It was them. The demons, the spirits, the gods, the monsters... they sent the wind in this particular day to warn him, alert him. They whispered in his ear their name, they intoxicated all his senses with his scent, the wind... the wind was bringing the dusty vermillion outsider to his tree. After some time two pair of blue eyes startled the plucked bag of bones lurking from the highest branch of the grey tree. Vali looked at him, motionless and pasrtially covered in the tall grass, and every inch of his body tensed as if he were about to spring. The intruder dared to give a single step and slowly all of Vali's remaining feathers went up part of an involuntary reflex and hissed. He was trying to stand his ground but he was absolutely terrified. That fear of the unknown, of everything at this point, fed his reactive intincts. It made him flee and made him fight, it kept him alive. No matter the cost.

That reactive state kept him from looking anything else other than the dinosaur's blue eyes, he even kept him from noticing the fresh pray he had in his mouth until he lowred his head and placed the dead rabbit in the ground. It took Vali a few minutes more. When his body strained a bit from keeping him in on his toes, he couldn't resist changing his gaze onto the dead animal. Immediately his stomach made a gutural sound, and that made his feathers lean down a bit. Hunger wasn't something he wasn't familiar with, he barely made up to survive specially in this hot season. He looked up again. Those blue eyes still on him. Vali hissed a bit louder but that didn't scare him one bit. His mind was racing. The evil gods, the demons from beyond the mountains, they knew. The sent him to kill him for sure. He knew that red spirit wandered around sometimes, he knew he watched him hiding in the tall grass near his tree like a hunter watched his next meal. They must be angry with him to send him this reaper. But he'll show them... Before he could think in anything else the creature tilted his head a bit and returned to the tall grass, levaing the catch behind. Vali was left alone with his paranoid thoughts. Little by little he felt something else. He didn't know what it was at first, it felt like somwthing he recognised in the past but now it felt very far away he just couldn't fully understand... Then some yellow eyes looked at his very heart from somewhere further than mere space. He recognised something. And it didn't feel bad.
