Wow, I learned so much by watching the livestream for this critter! Thank you a million times over to posting the process up there. I've just started with ZBrush and 3D sculpting in general, and I've just been starting everything with polyspheres and zspheres. I know Dynamesh is there, but it was kind of overwhelming for me to figure out how to pull out a complete body from a single dynasphere.

See you add the cylinder for the body, then spheres for the shoulders, block in the webbing, use your shapes to cut chunks out--that made much more sense to me, and now I think Dynamesh feels much less intimidating and I can't wait to try it out!

Thanks forever, KP!

That would be awesome. I learn best by watching!
Question! I started a dynamesh sculpt today and I'm getting a case of the noobylumpbubbles over the form, the smooth brush not smoothing back quite as much as I'd like. I'm used to sculpting first at a lower res and going up so I don't get that problem, but with my dynamesh, it's already so...highres? I guess that I'm having a bit of trouble. Can you "step down" with dyna like you can with subD's to smooth better while still keeping sculpted detail?

Ikameka In reply to raelislington [2012-07-13 05:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes you can, but it doesn't work like SubDs do. You can't go up and down and expect the detail to be retained, every time you change the Resolution of the Dynamesh (you'll see the slider next to the Dynamesh button), it is creating a new base mesh. That is essentially what Dynamesh is, a base mesh. So keep those principles in mind when working, keep the resolution as low as you can while still maintaining the form. When you are done turn Dynamesh off, then start using subdivisions :}

Hope this helps!

p.s. The resolution is dependent on the scale of the object. Bigger the object, the lower your resolution needs to be. Play with it and you will see, it will all make sense

Aha! I do see! I've been trying to use it backwards. Thanks again, KP.
