Vinyl Scratch and Octavia Melody met one evening at a night club after one of Octavia's performances. Octavia originally didn't want to go until Lyra had convinced her by mentioning that it was an open-mic night and Octavia could practice one of her new cello pieces. The grey mare promptly agreed, excited to try out her newest composition.

At first, Octavia cringed and the aggressive, thumping bass that the DJ was producing from two gigantic speakers. She and Lyra sat chatting for a while, with Octavia trying to ignore the noise, until the DJ's set had finished. Octavia jumped up on stage as soon as the space was vacated and announced her piece, stating that it was time for some 'real music'. What she didn't notice, however, was that the DJ had taken her place at the booth and was nodding along to whatever Lyra was saying, the two seeming like they already knew eachother.

Octavia shrugged it off and started her piece, her bow sliding elegantly along the strings. Her eyes, which had slipped closed, dared pop open for just a second to see how the DJ would react... Wait, why did she care so much? With a breath, she lost herself in the music.

Meanwhile, Vinyl was happily sitting and listening at Lyra gushed about BonBon again. Vinyl's ears pricked up as soon as she heard the cellist start to play, and her attention was immediately captured. Nothing Lyra did could recapture Vinyl's attention and, so, she just sat there quietly, smiling to herself.

Once the movement had finished, Octavia had trotted off the stage with her cello to the sound of thunderous applause and rejoined Lyra... And the DJ, who seemed to be staring at her behind those ridiculous sunglasses. Why was she even wearing those indoors?

Lyra broke the tension between the two by introducing them, explaining that Vinyl was mute and couldn't exactly talk but was still super cool once you got to know her. So, Octavia tried. It took some getting used to - only being able to ask 'yes or no' questions and all - but Octavia found herself relaxing and actually starting to understand the DJ. Maybe this 'dubstep' wasn't too different from a percussion section in an orchestra...

After that night, the two stayed in contact, with Vinyl starting to attend Octavia's concerts and orchestra performances and Octavia attending the clubs that Vinyl DJ'd at. Eventually, after some getting to know eachother and a few dates, the two fell in love and decide to move in together. It was during their 'moving in party' that Lyra confessed to arranging their initial meeting at that bar because she knew, despite their differences, that they'd be just perfect for eachother. And she wasn't wrong.
