I had a think (I'm hopeless with names!), and the one that springs to mind is
(a young) Tracey Scoggins, but she doesn't feel 100% there, I'll keep thinking

I had to look on IMDB who Tracey Scoggins was, i did not knew her, but when i saw the pictures of her...yes, she does look like my character...

Martian princess,Β Saharan sorceress, some mythic character of magical prowess... She looks great as anyΒ one of these.Β Well, she might need a bit more ornaments or accessories if she were a goddess queen.

Warranty4 In reply to Ikke46 [2015-06-02 08:10:28 +0000 UTC]

It's all very subjective, but I felt the material settings were off. What is it supposed to be made of, leather and metal perhaps, or satin and hi-tech. Where was it made, Paris or Indonesia? Did it cost a lot or was it on e-bay real cheap? Answer those questions and then see how you feel about how it looks.

This is as much a reminder to me as it is an opinion on your settings and result. I'm still at the beginning of the curve for learning material settings in Reality. Just in the last few days I learnt of the need for a good specular map in the specular settings of glossy materials, perhaps that is why I noticed this so much. I lot of props don't even have one!

If the prop doesn't have a specular map you can try the bump map as a stop gap solution. If that still doesn't satisfy, (or there isn't a bump map/there's a normal map instead!), you're going to need to open your preferred image editor. Find the texture map, (or bump map if it wasn't satisfactory), and greyscale it, (bump already is).

Now we have our greyscale bump map regardless which route we took. We want to increase contrast, don't overdo it, just lose some of the midtones. Think of each white spot as a potential reflection of light. Don't worry if there seems to be a lot of white because the amount of shine is still controlled by specular colour and glossiness value. In specular settings, most times we are looking for a greyish tone. If the item would change the colour of the light reflected, say a very shiny sheen satin would have no white highlights, then you can chose a subdued (low saturation) tone of main colour. You turn that up and you basically change the colour of your object, so keep it low (saturation), though you can get some nice duo-tone effects that way with strongly contrasting colours.

Some clothing props are beyond rescue in Reality. If the prop only has one or two material zones yet has multiple materials, (ie they just use one image map covering what should be two or more material zones), then it's never going to look good, one of the materials is always going to be 'off'.

Load a sphere and a cube apply texture, bump and specular maps and play with the settings, 5 minutes a render. Make notes and compare.

Right, I'm off to follow my own advice.

Ikke46 In reply to Warranty4 [2015-06-02 10:19:59 +0000 UTC]

Well well, that is some good advice, and all for free

Β You are right; good texturing can make or break a render. In this render the top and pants where leather, and i don't like leather to be to glossy, and the metal was gold, and also not tΓ² shiny. I don't know where she bought it, or that it is made in Paris or some where else

Some clothing has already great texture of his own, but surely not all Β  I am still learning about using bump in Reality, and will use your trick with the sphere and tube, to play with different setting Thanks
